2024 Recruiting Thread

OU writers have been pumping some serious sunshine on WN ... they never even looked UGA's way even though our guys said we were in it big time to the end. But, if you ain't first, you're last ... maybe this will help when he decides to transfer next year.

“It was Oklahoma on top for the longest,” he told On3. “They were on top of my list for a while. Then in June, I really thought hard about committing to Georgia, and I almost did. Tennessee was in there for a little while too. Missouri just stayed consistent, and over time, they moved up the list and I ended up committing to them over Georgia.”
NIL obviously plays a big part, as does being near home, but you've gotta think the early playing time is a big thing for some of these kids. He's coming into Mizzou as their most talented defensive player most likely, and he could turn into a first rounder just on talent alone.

The NFL will find him, but development matters. S&C, etc. Playing with the best everyday matters. If he lives up to his talent, he will get double-teamed every play. That doesn't happen when you have other 5* and high 4* around you. Will he be developed well enough to be a top-15 pick vs. a second-round pick? There are tens of millions of difference there.

You're not wrong there. That said, it's no guarantee he would've gone to UGA or OU and been an instant first rounder. There have been plenty of big name 5* kids to go to major schools recently who haven't lived up to the hype (though to be fair, UGA has definitely been more hit than miss).

Yup, where he will go to disappear. If not us, glad them and not you guys - speaking competitively. He would concern me as a Sooner. Already forgot about him as a Mizzou Tiger.
LOL, Mizzou had one of the best defenses last season.....Isaiah McGuire was a beast last season. Mizzou is known for turning out some good DL's. DL will be really good this season as well

In what way?

LOL.. c'mon man.. If he's as advertised he will be fine, even at Mizzu.. I don't like Mizzu because of all the ACLs and Achilles heels that have been left behind on their stadium field..

Good get for them and I'm enjoying seeing all the trolling at the expense of ou right now.. They been claiming him as part of the class since I can remember.. They really need David Stone to commit soon (or will he break their hearts too??!)

There is nothing wrong with Mizzou's field turf right now

OU is 67-24-5 (72%) vs Missouri. I sort of feel bad for the kid.

Once he takes the money on August 28, he’s tied down for a year. If you think you guys are gonna flipping, I don’t think that is going to happen, and that he’s gets to start receiving money in about two weeks.

LOL, according to the NCAA, it was 34th. 22nd if you look just at P5, so 22nd out of 64. UGA 7 in P5.

I'll give you that Mizzou has had some good DL in the past.

Also, you misunderstand my point ... he disappears at Mizzou because no matter how good he is, Mizzou is not a threat to my team, and I look at things through my team's eyes. If we miss out on a player I'd rather they go to Mizzou, FSU, or others and not go to tOSU, Bama, OU (in the past at least), or other teams that are going to be teams we have to get through to win a NC.

Look, it was a great get for Mizzou, just like Burden. But when your staff reacts like yours did, that's a problem. Not trying to take anything away from you - I've always said here that NIL would distribute some players around ... this is one of those times.

I get what you are saying, and I said in my posts above that if he plays to his reported skill level, the NFL will find him. But, do you think Mizzou has a S&C program as good as UGA? Will his natural talent get developed? The difference between going top 10 and the first pick of the second round is $10 - $26 million dollars. That's not to say he can't develop at Mizzou, but it's proven under Smart at UGA for DL - just the last 2 years - full amounts guaranteed:

Travon Walker - $37.3 million
Jalen Carter - $21.8 million
Jordan Davis - $17 million
Devonte Wyatt - $12.8 million
Nolan Smith - $11.9 million
Jermaine Johnson - 2 years at UGA, last year at FSU - $13 million

@Mutiger posted above, "Isaiah McGuire was a beast last season" - he went 126th ... a late 4th-round pick, and he got $4.55 million, but only $700K guaranteed.

One last thing here ... again, congrats Mizzou. This was from a recruiting guy at UGA Rivals ... I don't normally post the paywall stuff, but this was interesting and matches what he said to On3 when interviewed:

Georgia finished runner-up here. Not Oklahoma. This has been a Georgia-Missouri battle for about a month as we have reported. Some disagreements among the family about where to go. Even Williams himself was not sold on Missouri over Georgia. I do think the NIL thing pushed it over the top in the end.

I never included Williams Nwaneri in my class prediction because of NIL. I thought it would win out in the end. But I do know Georgia made he and his family think twice, even three times about the final choice. The announcement delays were just that. I do think Kirby will continue to recruit Williams but I think this one is all but over in my opinion.

In that he can start getting NIL on August 28th, him starting at Mizzou makes sense. What will be interesting is what happens if Mizzou's HC gets canned, or he gets a bunch of money and then decides to hit the portal. Normally I am all Ricky Bobby on this - if you ain't first, you're last. But here, being second could mean a lot if he portals.

On to McCray and Breland. McCray is an edge guy, while Breland is more of 3 tech.

One guy to keep an eye on is Steve Mboumoua ... he reclassified from 2025 to 2024 and is from Canada so he's flown under the radar.

You didn't watch much football last season. Had one bad game all year....Tennessee, which we had some guys banged up as well.

I wouldn't say one of the best, but they were a top 25 defense in terms of efficiency. They had some pretty good performances last year.
They were outside of the top 25 in YPG allowed and outside of the top 50 in PPG allowed. The Georgia game was impressive but Kansas State, Wake Forest, and especially Tennessee were bad, and if we're being honest they didn't exactly face a murderer's row of offenses.

The Tennessee game was bad, for sure. But even the Kansas State and Wake Forest games weren't bad. In the Kansas State game the defense had only given up 13 points heading into the 4th quarter(Punt return TD, 2 FG's after TO's). If they had any semblance of an offense and ST's that day, they might have won. You see 40 on the scoreboard, but one of those TD's came with like 3 minutes left, and 13 of those points can be attributed to bad ST and offense. The defense actually gave up less than what Kansas State avg for the year. Same with Wake Forest. Wake avg 37 ppg and Missouri only gave up 27. Hardly a bad performance. They were a good defense. If you cancel out their best(UGA) and worst performance(Tenn), overall they pretty good. Not top 10, but I'd say they were a top 25/30 defense last year.

That's what I meant. I never said their defense was horrible, but mutiger said their defense was one of the best which just isn't true.

I'm not sure where you get that they could have beaten K-State in a game they lost by 28 with half of their points coming on the final play of the game. To be fair, Wake Forest also took a knee inside the Mizzou 10 to kill the final minute off the clock, in addition to WF turning the ball over in the red zone in the first half, so it easily could've been over 37.

They were a solid defense but not spectacular, I'd say right around 40-50th. Again, it's not like they faced a gauntlet of offenses through the year. They had one good showing against UGA.
