Harbaugh facing 4 game suspension

I'm guessing there is more to it, as Pete Thamel reported yesterday. Guess we'll find out.
Even if there is, it means no big ten games. If it were 5 games in 2024, that means potentially not having him there for teams like usc or ucla early in the season. At minimum, it splits up any penalty.

Or the University look at the evidence and knows Harbs is guilty and they are hoping this will keep them from a harsher penalty from Harbs breaking the rules.
I think the university (and Harbaugh) were purposeful in choosing 3, not 4 or more.

I woulda taken the stiffer Penalty this year. I mean the NCAA said no so what can you do I guess.

Michigan doesn't play a somewhat competent opponent until week 5, if you even consider Nebraska that. Or Week 6 @ Minnesota.

2024 right out of the gate in week 2 they play Texas

I guess they must be expecting 2024 to be a uphill climb anyway with all the losses coming after this year and going all in on 2023.

Even if the ncaa adds penalties I bet Michigan fights them; delaying their actual impact. I would be shocked if the ncaa doesn’t outright accept this to avoid further embarrassment and goes further than tacking on something stupid or another single game.

I mean the NCAA doesn't have to "accept it" since Michigan is technically doing it to themselves. Like I said it's really just a spineless move by Ward Manuel to cover the Athletic Department's ass. If things come down to it they are going to throw Harbaugh to the wolves. that is 100% obvious.

I don't think they are. They're positioning themselves to push back on any additional punishments, hence the language in Michigan's announcement yesterday.

Included in the self-imposed sanctions is a three-game suspension for Head Coach Jim Harbaugh, to be served during the opening three regular-season games of the 2023 season. The sanctions are in addition to previously imposed recruiting restrictions.

"While the ongoing NCAA matter continues through the NCAA process, today's announcement is our way of addressing mistakes that our department has agreed to in an attempt to further that process,"
I doubt Michigan sees any significant punishments from this.

They are 100% getting ahead and trying to lessen the blow if the hammer comes down sometime in the next year.

I read it as they 3 gamer is the Athletic Department "admitting their fault" and covering their own ass if the NCAA decides to drop the hammer on Harbaugh once they finish their investigation.

No one ever thought there wouldn't be penalties for this? we've been talking about a potential harbaugh suspension for like a year now. This is Michigan rejecting the idea that it should be 4+

Lol at anyone who thinks the NCAA is going to "drop the hammer". The NCAA wanted Harbaugh to admit wrongdoing and take a 4-5 game suspension. Harbaugh said no, Michigan implemented what they thought was a fair punishment and challenged the NCAA to do/prove anything else.

And they will. You are completely delusional to think Michigan sitting Harbaugh for 3 tomato cans is going to make this all go away.

Also you think the university even has the spine to try to sue the NCAA. LMAO! They were bowing down and trying to get the NCAA to agree to a 4 game suspension. Michigan was going to take the 4 games until the NCAA DENIED IT! But here you are acting like Michigan are the ones wearing the pants here. Hilarious. The NCAA Told them NO, it wasn't Michigan "not wanting Harbaugh to be suspended into the conference season" they were 100% on board with that until the NCAA shut it down.

And that opinion would make sense if Michigan went ahead and put in place a self imposed 4 game suspension in response to that. There's a reason they didn't. Which indicates to me that the "insiders" weren't quite correct on the handshake deal in place with the NCAA. We have no idea who was "100% on board" with what.

The 3 games is purposeful. And even if they tack on more to next year, Harbaugh wins in either scenario. He doesn't miss a single B10 game. Allowing the NCAA to impose whatever they wanted next year guaranteed he would. The worst case scenario now is that he misses the Texas game next season, which he would have missed if Michigan waited anyway. The best case scenario is that the NCAA backs down and quietly gives up at some point to avoid further embarrassment; especially once Michigan is free to talk about this.

I mean it's clear that the NCAA was the one who shut the deal down. It wasn't Michigan playing hardball and saying "no we aren't doing that" Harbaugh would be 100% sitting for 4 games to open this season if the NCAA said yea sure to that deal.

You'd really he rather miss the Texas game next year than a fucking home game against RUTGERS this year?

I just don't get how you'd expect the same people who are clearly bowing to and trying to please the NCAA to suddenly grow the spine top SUE the NCAA if they decide to hammer down on Harbaugh more.

I'd also like to hear Harbaugh's actual thoughts on this. All he said was some stupid shit about "Don't get bitter get better". I'm assuming he's not too happy that Warde pulled the rug out and is making him sit 3 games on his own accord instead of at the NCAA's will.

How is it clear? We only have nonsense "sources" indicating things. There's pretty clearly something we don't know from one side or both.

Rutgers counts towards the B10 title. Texas counts towards pretty literally nothing, and in a 12 team playoff it matters even less.

If Michigan was bowing to the NCAA they would have volunteered a 4 (or more) game suspension. It's almost certain Harbaugh agreed to this and the 3 game, not 4, is purposeful and probably influenced heavily by Harbaugh.

Dude Michigan was GOING TO TAKE THE 4 GAMES until the NCAA said no to the agreement. You are trying to revise history and claim it was Michigan who said "no way" and backed out of that deal.

Also you think Michigan is losing to Rutgers if Harbaugh can't coach? Lol. Come on.

The negotiated resolution between Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh and the NCAA over alleged recruiting violations was not approved by the NCAA Committee on Infractions, sources confirmed to ESPN on Saturday, which leaves the timing of Harbaugh's expected suspension uncertain.

CONFIRMED that the NCAA was the one who denied the 4 game deal. It wasn't Michigan. They were going to take it. The 3 gamer is a plea for mercy while at the same time not trying to totally piss Harbaugh off, even though i;d bet he's still not very happy considering the chatter before was that Harbaugh was adamant about serving zero suspension.

Oh really, "sources"! -- isn't that just what I said? We also have no idea why the deal was not approved. There was some talk about suspensions for our OC and others as well. Maybe the part they didn't agree with was the suspension durations of the assistant coaches in question?

See:

Again, there's a reason Michigan chose 3 games and not the "agreed upon" 4.

Keep believing that Michigan is telling the NCAA to "stick it" here. Lol. They are begging for mercy if anything.

Also it was CONFIRMED. Not speculation. So yes the NCAA did deny it. But keep living in fantasy land.
