They traded up a couple of years ago in the draft, in a major way, to get him. He gets made starter, and then one season later, he's behind both Brock Purdy... and Sam Darnold!?

Whatever gives you that impression? The fact that he lost his job to the last pick in the draft and a shitty USC QB (and every USC QB has been straight trash in the NFL)? The fact that they’re willing to let him go for a fourth round pick?

I’ll give credit where credit is due. You have a firm grip on the obvious.

"when he was able to suit up" is the key. $145m for 59 games over 6 years. played barely half the games he was paid for.

He took them to a Superbowl and nearly a second. He played very well last season on the way to another NFC championship. Could he have been better? Absolutely. Bust? Absolutely not.

Just saying, it'd be pretty hard to admit that the guy was a poor choice, without blaming the front office for screwing so many of the future's picks. The 49ers effectively traded three 1st round picks and a 3rd rounder, for one 4th.

I haven’t defended the pick once, even when it happened. Dude played one year of college football at North fucking Dakota. It was a shit pick. They atoned themselves with Purdy.
