UM folds ... accepts punishment

Right. And read on. Because the "who" that applies to is important. It applies to "institutional staff". It's clearly not illegal for me, a graduate/booster/ect. of Umich to go to a Michigan state game and record the game. The "who" matters here.

To be clear, no institutional staff scouted teams in person.

That's just mental gymnastics. The NCAA isn't going to care about mental gymnastics.

Was a scheme developed by a Michigan staffer to illegally gather, in-person, the sideline signals of a future (in-season) opponent?
YES!!! Over 30 times in the last 3 years.

Was the illegally gathered information used by the Michigan football program for their benefit?
YES!!!

I guess the season should have just been cancelled if you don't think it's legit.
Nah, gambling world needed something to bet on, but any results are taken with a grain of salt. I’ll give the Bucs in the NFL half a championship since they did at least play a full season

I'm not playing your mental gymnastics.

A Michigan staffer was sending people to over 30 future opponents games )in the same season) for the sole purpose of gathering video of said future opponents sideline signals. Michigan was using said staffers data to benefit from it in the actual game against said future opponents.

Who the fuck in the Michigan organization knew about it is a moot point. It was illegal scouting. It's in black and white of the NCAA by-laws.

It's the same logic as "well even though I paid that hitman to kill someone I shouldn't be guilty of anything because I didn't actually kill anyone personally"
I did say that Michigan is culpable (responsible), and Michigan has been punished.

When the excuse for the rule is financial, I think that is horse shit. Helmet Communications appears to be a logical solution. I AM NOT SAYING THAT MICHIGAN IS ABSOLVED FROM THEIR ACTIONS. This is a problem that has a simple solution. In person scouting should be allowed.

Good thing message board retards don't get to make the decisions on what and what does not really count.

Not completely. The Big 10 was limited in what they could do.

The NCAA has yet to get their pound of flesh. They have a much larger hammer than the Big 10 has.

Michigan looked average against Maryland a team Nebraska took to the limits. It will be glorious to watch Michigan fail with next seasons schedule. When they say us against the world they ain’t kidding , the world hates cheating bastids.

What happens when they turn out to be like the Astros and just keep winning?

Perhaps helmet radios will be easier to pass vote on now And the will call it the Michigan solution.

So a team should be punished by the B1G and the NCAA for the same violation? Doesn’t seem American to me. Is there precedent for that?

Gotta go … real life calls.

One could also view that as a "trap game".

i.e. Michigan taking Maryland lightly by looking ahead to Ohio St.
