Nebraska Cornhuskers The Official 10000 posts for a Husker Conference Championship

I'm not ready to throw him to the wolves yet.

First year system, a lot of injuries, and young players.
same. the kids have been through 3 systems in 3 years, would like to see if another year and another QB (if Purdy isn't the guy) would do. I have been critical of Satt and hopefully Rhule can get him to settle down and run the damn ball or find a short passing game. just tired of how little variety in the passing game.

Might have spoke to soon. Or maybe find someone else that can call the plays.

WRs are open but Purdy looks at first read and tucks instead of finding open guy. Would like to see him trust his arm and throw it in front of a guy and let him make a play.

Would like to see more option in 2nd half, just making it to easy to read run and pass plays with this crap play calling.

Why the heck does Rhule (or the OC) constantly play for FG's?

They didn't even try to get the first down with 5:00 to play in the 4th Q at 10-10 tie.

Of course they missed the FG.

Ugh. Horrible coaching job in 2H, forget that, the whole game was poorly coached. I changed my mind on Sat. Screw it, bring in a jnew coordinator, one that runs read option. Horrible timeout usage. Inexcusable to have to use your last one on that last drive to avoid delay of game. Just run the damn ball, didn't ever try to establish it, to busy trying to throw.

Just discussed with that ending. Pissed at the holding call of the DB. Pissed at that timeout. Pissed at the pick. Then giving up a long run when you had it stuffed. Wtf. Damn it.

Welp

Another 9 months to try and break the curse.
Mercifully yes,, I couldn’t watch much more of the inept offense (too many injuries) and playing just good enough to lose.

There is nothing here to call - at least the refs sucked for both teams today.

yea, refs were horrible both ways. Although the few calls they did make seemed to go Iowa's way. that horrible late hit out of bounds call. and holds like this should always be called. freaking 2 refs back there for a reason. I prefer they let guys play, but in low scoring games like this where defense is winning out, those calls are important.

so had a day to pout.

I think we are on the right trajectory.

O can't get worse. I have flipped on Sat, unless they'll let me have a conversation with him. It's just sickening his level of incompetence on calling plays. Never running plays to setup other plays. It's like the primary chess move that OCs have. Setup your passing game with runs, more playaction off those runs. We turn around and hand the ball off on quite a few run plays and frankly, i recall 0 playaction passes off of that action. 0 naked bootlegs, which were Iowa's best plays off their run action. Got our DEs several times with that action. Also, a running QB and like 1 read option call which didn't even come until the 4Q and it gained like 9 yards. It's such a simple play and helps hold DL/LBs and gives better chance for more yards. Not sure why he avoids it. Iowa sitting back there with 2 spies (wiscy and MD did this too) to keep QB from scrambling so not getting yards off that as much as we did earlier in the year. no one was scared of our QB's arm talent or WRs.

But on bright side on O, had a lot of injuries, were playing a ton of young RBs/WRs and they will only get better. Same on OL, seemed to get better, could still use a transfer at left tackle unless Teddy going to improve in offseason, but he struggled a lot. QB - Purdy could be the answer, full offseason, hopefully getting pushed by someone we bring in. Maybe some offseason help from his brother and a professional QB coach. That last pick was bad, but so close to being good. just not enough playing time so didn't recognize that guy dropped right there. I'm very torn there, but not sure who else would be willing to transfer this spring.

D - need Tony White to stay another year. Bump his salary to 1.4M and that will probably keep away small jobs (can lower Sats to like 800k). But honestly, the main thing on D is young guys played a lot and quite a bit coming back next year. Flying around better with better tackling. If can keep that going, that's all that matters. Need to find more interior DL, you could tell when Hutmacher and Robinson weren't in there. Two main guys i remember were Jeudy, Van Poppel, both got pushed around too easy, hopefully got some other guys coming up. But between Lenhardt, Umanmielen, and some of the LBs too, feel like we got some good speed rushers who will only get better (hopefully, as we haven't been great at development in the last 10 years). Hopefully they stop missing QBs in the backfield.

Note to Rhule, play to win on the road, play for OT at home. To see a young Nebraska team with a new staff push Iowa with an established staff and the same system for decades - that gives me hope especially since I had us winning one game (would have picked 0) after the Frost fiasco. Things aren’t as bad as I thought post Scotty too hottie.

ST - needs improvement in every facet of the game.

K - Alvano has the leg, but sure struggled hitting kicks. hopefully going to be better going forward.
P - Good Buschini is good, bad Buschini is bad. hopefully get more of the good.
Return game - need to find a guy that can do it. plenty of yards to be had out there on punt returns, but also just knowing when to do it. That Fumble by Nation should never have happened, caught it in too much traffic, should have been a fair catch. need a guy that knows when to take his shots.

Nailed it again!
For it being a throw away first season these guys had me longing for that miracle 6th win. Next year is whole new animal with the West coast teams which could be another reason to lower expectations. A stud QB transfer can make all the difference in the world for us. Just look how Russell Wilson changed the Badgers after his transfer in.

Anyone want to theorize All conference players?

I'd wager zero on offense. Unless they name like 1 OL, Scott or Noulli maybe as honorable mention? We were second in rushing so seems like 1 person should get recognized and it won't be an RB or QB.

Defense is hard to guess. We rotated a ton of guys. I'd be disappointed if Hutmacher isn't there, he was huge for us. Gifford is hard to quantify, but he's the only guy on our team top 10 in tackles. Tommi Hill is first in passes defended and 5th in INTs, so feel like he should be on there. Hard to picture anyone else just because their stats aren't showing up, which I'm guessing a lot of folks look at since they don't see every game.

Welp, that's ridiculous.

I guess I was right. Media/coaches probably all voted for many different guys so just a bunch of HM guys.
