Yeah. The win against Alabama looks good, not so much the rest. The B1G is tough and deep against below average teams.

He had a 12th ranked class in 22 and 8th last year and added Battle. Maybe MSU has recruited better in that time.

He's just a shitty coach. There is no doubting it now.

I would say it isn't even close to decent this year KenPom has their NCSOS at #252. And your ranking there is #42. Seems like you are underperforming.

Who cares about the SOS? If Holtmann was even a average coach he wouldn't be losing games to terrible Michigan and Penn State teams.

As of yesterday, Michigan's only conference win was @ Iowa back on Dec 10th.

There are 6 Big 10 teams who have yet to get a road win.

Nebraska (0-3)
Iowa (0-2)
Ohio St (0-3)
Mich St (0-3)
Penn St (0-3)
Rutgers (0-3)

I don't think recruiting is as strong a factor in basketball as it is in football. But, the direction in the last few years is not indicative of good coaching.

I agree. Especially when your best player hits and goes pro. But I point that out to say it's not for a lack of talent. Matta crushed it in recruiting...Ayers was a good recruiter...O Brien took over a dumpster fire and made a final four.

Holtmann is the worst OSU coach of my lifetime.

I don't care if it was on the road, this Michigan team is terrible, they lost to fucking McNeese State by 11 at home like 2 weeks ago. Zero excuse for this loss.

O'Brien was a terrible coach too, he got pretty lucky with that final 4 team. The rest of his tenure at Ohio State outside of that year was incredibly underwhelming.

Ayers was terrible as well. I'm too young to really remember any of his teams but the records aren't good at all.

Holtmann is going the route of both those guys, they had good teams their first few years and then fell off of a cliff.

Ayers fell apart because his players were a bunch of gang bangers. But his peak he had 2 very very good teams built around Jim Jackson. Yes the late 90s were nuts because damn near every player got arrested and Derek Anderson transferred.

I will grant you Holtmann is less of a mess than Ayers.

O'Brien like I said just got very fortunate run of luck with that final 4 team. Other than that he never made it out of the 2nd round of the tourney. I was going to say Holtmann is about equal to him but thinking more I'll say Holtmann is worse though because he has more talent than O'Brien did most of the time.

Hoping Nebraska can finally get a conference road win @ Rutgers on Wednesday.

Rutgers does have a home loss, but that was to Illinois. Their lone conference win was hosting Indiana.

They lost @ Ohio St, @ Iowa, and @ Michigan St

Hard to see the program hit the heights it was at for nearly a decade plus to barely making tournaments.

Matta was on the decline but he still left the program in decent enough shape that we shouldn't be here.
 
Home losses are going to be killers for Big 10 teams hoping to get into the NCAA Tournament, because they're difficult to make up on the road.

The road loss excuse is nice but it doesn't apply when you're losing to shit teams like Michigan and Penn State. Who can't even beat teams like McNeese and Bucknell on their home courts.

If we coulda beaten Penn State and Michigan we would be sitting nice at 14-3 and 4-2 in B1G play, but instead we are 12-5 and 2-4 in B1G play, teetering on the edge of another January/February meltdown that leaves us out of the tournament.

If Holtmann loses to Penn State at home on Friday he should be fired on the fucking spot.
