TV Series The Bear

The show is still good, don’t get me wrong. I am just applying a VERY high bar to the grading system.

I will hold off on my spoiler reviews until more posters are caught up.
Will another season come out THIS year?

The whole season was just a filler season. So very aggravating. I don’t know why they decided to basically just throw the whole season away like that. So confusing.

The season should have ended with the results of the review (either way). Also, his partner should have decided to leave. So basically, the review comes in, the Bear is forced to close due to financial complications, and the partnership will appear to be over. That would set up S4 for a lot to clean up.

Also, do something address the absolutely contrived shit Carm was placed in after the walk-in incident. Why he had to eat shit from his girlfriend for venting in a stressful situation when he didn’t even know she was there is beyond me. And then Richie chose that situation to bow up on Carm? Richie is a self destructive imbicile, so I can somewhat buy that, but then to go an entire season of NOTHING and not even think of applying any resolution to that story?

What a waste of a season…
I am tired of the Sydney character. She is a whiny Gen Z composite. I do like the arc that Ritchie has taken IMHO

I liked Richie before this season. This stupid fight between he and Carm makes no sense and was completely contrived. And completely unaddressed this season.

I enjoyed S3 quite a bit, but agree with most that the plot really didn't move much.

There were a few standout episodes. Ep 1 i think had maybe 15 words of dialogue the whole episode. Artistically it was pretty great and I'm sure it will receive a lot of award consideration. Same with Ep 6, which was Tina's backstory.

But, for the most part, this season was all about the characters dealing with and trying to overcome their past traumas. Sydney and her anxiety, Richy and his ex-wife (and her upcoming wedding), Marcus and his mom, Sugar and her mom, and Carmy and basically everyone but especially his former boss and ex gf.

All the while we have the looming tribune review and find out that Cicero has serious money issues that will significantly impact the restaurant's ability to remain open.

But for plot progression, it felt more like the mid-way point in a season instead of the conclusion of one. It's possible S4 comes out faster than a year from now.

IF (big IF), this entire season is treated as the first half of a longer season, than I could be OK with it. But the season, as is, is just setup with no conclusion. No advancement, even. It is a first and second act, followed by the credits being rolled. It is incomplete.

Cliffhangers have been a part of TV shows since “Who shot JR” (about 40 years now), so you can’t blame the flow on that. You can have a cliffhanger and still tell a whole story (ST:TNG was great at doing that). This season did not do that.

I hated the season but still like the show if that is possible.

Best episode of the season once again was all Jamie Lee Curtis as she has been absolutely phenomenal as the mom. My biggest issue is they focus so much on backstory/flashbacks that it killed the season and the story didn't move forward. Typically you have one or two throw-away episodes in a season and half this season was in that category.

Yeah, we needed more plot movement. Needed something to be resolved or at least known. Like if we got the Tribune review or they found out Cicero is broke, that would have been a decent season ender.

Only 3 episodes in, and I don't know ow why they spent an entire episode basically going back through he culinary training.

Whole damn season is a review for each character. While it was nice fluff for character development, it really could have been interwoven into episodes that actually moved the plot. Very unimpressed with this season. Started a Shameless rewatch to get a proper Jeremy Allen White fix.

You like that goose nosed dwarf that smells like cigarettes and pent up anger that only a Napoleon syndrome sufferer can muster?

I've read that the creator intended for this show to be 3 seasons long, but after the success, FX came to him to do more. So he stretched out what he had in mind for the final season across two and filmed season 3 and 4 (airing next year) back to back. Knowing that, it makes sense because a few of those episodes feel like they were padding out the episode count.

Very solid final season. A lot better than season 3
