USC is playing this Saturday at 9AM

I used to hate Sat morning football practice in HS. Nothing like smash collisions at 8:30AM when you were just doing shots at midnight. Half the team would puke.

If they only could be winning consistently.. Oregon just doesn't have that cache that SC has.. When they were rolling people tuned in for the late kickoffs vs Fresno St lol. I had DirectTV with a tivo in my apt back then.. Once I got home around 3am in a drunken stooper, I would watch the game off it.

Everyone would be talking about it, despite being on so late back then. Crazy how winning consistently can get people wanting to watch, no matter what time the KO is.

Yeah, if USC can get back to something close to the Pete Carroll era, that would definitely help the conference's exposure. But even back then, it was pretty much only USC that people back East would watch. The rest of the PAC lagged behind and couldn't get the ratings, unless they were playing USC. Back then the PAC was basically considered USC and a bunch of little brothers.

The one good thing for the conference with USC having been down is that Oregon at least was able to develop a "curiosity" that got folks to check them out.

I think that if USC can get back to normal levels and Oregon can get rolling again, that will go a long way to helping the profile of the rest of the conference. Some of the other schools winning OOC games against other P5 conferences would help some as well.

Exactly.

The PAC has been trying to figure out how to get more eyes on its games for years. That's partially what "PAC After Dark" was about.

I think the idea of having USC play the game that will be on at noon Eastern is because USC is the "name" school that will get folks watching. Then maybe they decide to check out some of the other PAC games.

Don't know if it will work, but its better than sticking with the status quo which isn't working. Plus, as you mention, with little to no fans, they don't have to worry as much about the difference. If it works, they can continue to do it in the future and fans will have time to adjust for next year.

I think it’s great for this season. I just don’t see it working when fans are back. Maybe if the game is in Colorado or Utah (but those aren’t the teams that the networks want)

Yeah, this is definitely the year to try it.

If it works, then they will have to decide if it worked well enough for them to ask the fans to adjust their schedules once a season or so.

If so, then I still wouldn't want to see any team have to play more than 1, maaaaaaybe 2 early games a season.

Call Larry Scott! lol. 3 Eastern, Noon Pacific goes against the CBS SEC Game of Week and a major B1G or Big Xii Game on ABC or Fox. They are trying to get Easterners to watch Pac Football, not make Pac fans enjoy their day! :) It's a bit early, but at least they are thinking outside he box, and it beats the hell out of a late, late game. At least the traffic will be lighter getting to the early kickoff. Angelinos will definitely like that!
this doesnt impact Pac fans that much. A lot of us wake up and start watching games at 9 anyway. If west coast has an eleven or noon kick then tailgate generally has gameday and games from East on anyway.

I mean regardless of when they put it on it’ll go against something. Having it on at noon eastern goes against the fox game which they have been openly trying to push their better games at noon and even a good game on ABC.

I get they are trying to get east coaster eyes but it seems nuts to risk injury and maybe plain ugliness for a chance to get viewers. Just my opinion though.
how is this risking any more injury than any other time slot? are you saying that a couple hours later and all of a sudden there is no risk?

It’s like Gremlins. 12 o’clock is magic time

Did I say there is no risk?

You don't think the risk is greater when kids that don’t normally play tackle football 9am

100% no.

No more risky than having players playing at 1 am when they don’t normally play tackle football.

Guess I’m in the minority, but I definitely think there is a biological clock different between playing at 9am and playing a few hours later. Look at the record of west coasts teams in both levels coming east and playing a noon game. It’s usually not good.

Michigan State had to play a west coast team where the game started at 10:30pm. To me it’s the same difference. The game didn’t end until after 2:00am.

Fair point
