Poll Texas #1?

Texas #1 in next AP POLL?

  • WILL be and SHOULD be

  • WILL be but SHOULDN’T

  • WON’T be but SHOULD be

  • WON’T be and SHOULDN’T

Results are only viewable after voting.
Seems there are two different "metrics" used to come up with rankings.

Do you rank the teams on past performance or on expected future performance?

Which one dominates during the season? Hmmm.....
I think human polls care too much about being correct long term, when voting early in the season. They tend to ignore early game wins where favorites struggle. Blue bloods get a bit of a free pass by pollsters. Good news is every week the projections become less significant part of voting. In the preseason poll crowning the #1 team is based solely on projections. When the title game is over it is 100% based on resume.

By the way, part of the reason I downgrade UGa is OL. They lost maybe their best OL in the UK game. The reason I had Georgia #1 is I thought they had the best OL in the country. Not sure they have looked like it, so far this year. They definitely didn’t look like it vs Kentucky. Maybe that was a match-up thing, but it is a question. I am sure teams like Texas, Osu, and Tenn will play a game over the next month, where we question our preconceived notions

I don't think the SEC is down this year. It's just you're playing all the weakest teams.

including the one in Dallas this year?? lol

I can own that. Alabama, Tennesee, Ole Miss, South Carolina all look better. Lsu may even be better than OU. But texas doesn't play any of them.

I am not ready to go there yet. Texas needs to get healthy first

When Roach makes a pick it is usually rock solid. (Mostly because he only makes them when it’s a lock)

Happy for them.

Albeit their win over Kansas took away from the Illinois' win over what was then a ranked Kansas.

Yeah, I was rooting for Kansas to make a run at a playoff spot this year but the wheels have fallen off already. Daniels has been a massive disappointment. Too bad, I really like their running game

Will be interesting to see where Illinois sits in a month. Their next 5:
@Nebraska
@PSU
BYE
Purdue
Michigan
@Oregon

Kansas lost their OC to Penn St after last season. Not sure if that's the difference.

That could be part of it.

Daniels had a back injury in 2023

The SEC was down last year and it's down some more this season, so far. They're more weak teams this season. Three good ones, three showing a lot of potential and the rest are meh to bad.

And it’s still the best conference by a mile

Texas has a QB controversy
