TV Series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

How far in? Second season was way better imo.
I’m all the way through and would agree the 2nd is better but I’m struggling to actually like any of the characters.

I liked Adar. I was extremely pleased to see them write in one of the original elves Morgoth corrupted. I guess he was one of those very first that "woke up", easily my favorite character so far.

Galadriel is still coming off like a stupid girl. For crying out loud, by the time of the forging of the rings she was very old and had attained much wisdom and "powers". It's stupid for Gil Galad to remotely lecture her on what is and is not wise. Elrond is just his simp.

Papa Dwarf is OK, but the rest suck.

The Hobbits are silly.

But I have learned to enjoy it for what it is I guess. It's OK for me, because it deals with a largely unknown timeline unlike Wheel of Time which is totally unwatchable.

Yep, he's "Avari" and a great addition to the narrative. A very grey character.

True, Galadriel saw the trees in Valinor. Gil-Galad was born in Middle Earth. Elrond, OTOH, IS a child, he was born at the end of the first age.

The Hobbits are silly.

Too many of the dwarves are just bumbling, clumsy oafs, in keeping with Gimli's character from the LOTR movies. It seems a bit unfair. At least with the Hobbits, they're setting up for how Bilbo's people ended up in the Shire, so I'm interested in seeing how that plays out.

One of the most interesting characters in this season is Cirdan. The books don't really talk much about his character, but I thought they did a good job with him. He was thoughtful about the rings, not impetuous like Elrond and not power-hungry like Galadriel. Arondir is another interesting character, being from the First Age, already fading and not really fitting in anywhere. I'm not sure if he's Sindarin or Noldorin. In an earlier episode he said he was from Beleriand but I missed whether he was born there, or was an exile from Valinor that refused to return after Morgoth's defeat. When the Ents and Entwives met him, he claimed to be "from the Great Forest" which would indicate Greenwood/Mirkwood, making him Sindar

Well...we now know who The Stranger is. :D
I haven't watched the finale, but I did see the one where Tom Bombadil told the Stranger "there are some that live who deserve death, and some that die who deserve life..."

Usually I come on to these threads to make fun of you nerds for liking this fantasy shit, but I really liked the second season of this series.

Fuck you nerds anyway, though.

Word!

It would take me at least two or three viewings to complete an episode. Not because it's boring, it's just that I push it pretty hard, so if I get comfortable, I fall asleep.

Just finished episode 8, and it SUCKED

Why? I liked it. Was it grand elf? I do think Galadriel's character is not in line with how I perceived her in LOTR. Her decision making sucks so far. I don't like how easily she gives away her ring. I didn't see that coming. It is a slap in the face to Celebrimbor who finally came to his senses in the end.

I really liked the ending where Gandalf and Tom Bombadil sing one of Tolkiens songs. I had a smile.

Off subject...I recall you say you work for Cotsco. We don't have a cotsco here but we have a sam's. The sams store in watertown just went to the auto sensor that scans your entire cart on the way out. It must scan the receipt too because it worked when I checked out last week. They still post a person at the door with the hand held scanner but when the auto scanner OK'd my cart, he didn't have to do anything futher but tell me to have a great day. That thing is fast.

I understand that Sams plans to do away with checking out as we know it. When it's fully operational, the shopper push their full cart through the sensor and it scans everything in the cart and then processes the credit card payment. Pretty cools stuff.

It is way cool but the lost product will have them tame that back.

This is really the way forward and I can not believe that we don't have this 100% everywhere. RFID is the way to go for inventory. Comes in a pallet through a scanner. Scanner scans the chips and recognizes the item and quantity. People put in basket, recognizes the item and product and person charged. But we ain't there yet. Sams will realize at some point that the loss on product will make this process very expensive. IMO.

Crazy convenience though. Costco scanners are about entering. Too many non members shopping.

Horrible thread hijack.

They are already reporting big losses to theft and self checkout. Along with everyone else. I'm not sure this will be worse or better.

The loss you are thinking...is it where you think some items in a cart will be missed by the scanner and then not paid for?

However it works, my cart was scanned and approved based on my receipt so it must have caught everything in my cart...that time anyways. I only had a few hundered dollars in items so it wasn't a full cart. It should have been an easy scan.

The lady behind me, she had to be rescanned by the guy with the hand held, so it must not have worked or maybe she didn't have her receipt out so the auto scan could see it. :noidea:

This is very cool stuff though.
