CFP Rankings

Especially this year, a lot of parity with the transfer portal. The extended season might have an effect on some kids, too. Eventual champ may not be the most talented team but the one who stays the healthiest.

Hoping Ohio State has its worst injuries behind it already. Looks like they might actually go into the postseason with a normal RB room, knock on wood. Last two seasons they were bringing walk on wire receivers and converted LBs into the postseason at the RB position.

If texas doesn't belong, they'll lose their quarterfinal. But they, Penn State, and Indiana will all be in.

Ideally nobody in the bracket has any major injuries. We all wanna see good games. But it seems inevitable, and I think it's another reason why we may see the end of the CCG's in the next 5-10 years.

They have turned into South Carolina. It's a tough scene to watch
Bro they wish they were SC this year. But it's cool, we're gonna show em around, help em get used to being an also-ran.

Doesn’t matter to the committee. I’d need to look at the schedules/rankings, but I don’t think Penn State or Indiana will a win over a ranked team either. Maybe Illinois? Miami, Boise and SMU also.

Not thumping my chest over it but Boise did beat #22 UNLV on the road and will likely play them again in the MWC championship.

Too much money to lose.

The leagues might wanna keep them, but the member schools don't wanna play em anymore. If all it takes is a majority member vote to stop them, I can see it happening.

How much additional revenue does the game bring in, versus potential revenue from getting multiple teams in the bracket?

SEC Championship creates more revenue than an additional team in the playoff. Not even close, really.

Then I guess it's gonna be more about teams not wanting the extra game to keep them out of the playoffs.

Texas’ best win is a 3 point victory over 6-5 Vandy.

Texas’ 2nd best win is a 10 point victory over 6-5 Arkansas.

Even with that resume, the committee still has Texas ranked #3 so it’s pretty obvious the committee has a hard on for Texas.

If A&M and Vandy both lose this weekend texas wont have a win over a ranked team. Crazy
Someone called em the Indiana of the SEC for 2024.
I didn’t, but someone did…

I really don't like the idea of crazy tie breakers deciding who gets a bye in the playoffs either. Which would be the case often without conference championship games with how large the conferences have gotten

That’s the final say, if it’s more money to get em in the playoffs then the CCG’s are going away but if not and it’s like you say, and there is significantly more money to keep playing them? Well then enjoy the CCG for the foreseeable future.

I mean the thing is I think Texas is a decent team. How good? We don't know. If they lose to A&M and Georgia again are they still in the playoffs?

Agree, my gut says they are solid as well and.. it’s not their fault that the schedule lined up like it did, they can only play whoever is on the slate but how good are they as far as playoffs?…. I can’t say that I trust em completely.

Okay, here's what we do:

the biggity conferences move to a divisional format where there are four teams per div.

You play all your division mates every year, plus two teams each from the other three divisions.

All four division winners play a mini-tournament to decide the conference champ.

The playoffs goes down to 8 teams, mostly winners of their conferences with some at-large.

They're as good as any other team in the SEC, which as we have seen this year is not world-beater status but pretty good. So they're interchangeable with about 20 other schools.

Took us over 100 years to decide we weren't just gonna pick the national champion and you want that kinda change right after we just had big change? You know what sport you are watching right?

What you said does sound cool though

I mean, yeah, but it seems like we're just spit-ballin'.

"Fans want a playoff...how about 12 teams???"
"Okay, yeah, let's try that and see how it works..."

I know there will never be an end to the controversy. If the bowls weren't so entrenched we could have gone to the FCS model a long time ago.

I stand corrected. Thanks.

When I was working on the above, it stood out how many teams didn't get many opportunities to play other CFP currently ranked teams. Can't beat 'em if they aren't on the schedule. Indiana had only one chance, Ohio State. Several others were that way. Hell some like Tulane didn't have any opportunities. Miami hasn't had an opportunity either.
