That reminded me that I bought that Series I bond in 2022 but I can't sell it for 5 years, otherwise I lose the last 3 months of interest. Booooo!

I don't need any of it right now. I'll try to hold onto it for the max limit (30 years). I bought it in October of 2022 and I think the rate at the time was something like 9%. I don't know how the interest system works... I pretty much don't know what any of the below means (pulled from the treasury direct site) because my brain shuts off at the first mention of "interest" but its current value is $5652. Purchase price was $5k and it seems like I probably should've done the max of $10k :sigh:

The interest rate on a Series I savings bond changes every 6 months, based on inflation. The rate can go up. The rate can go down.

The overall rate is calculated from a fixed rate and an inflation rate. The fixed rate never changes. The inflation rate is reset every 6 months and, therefore, so is the overall rate.
