TV Series Cobra Kai

Love this show
Johnny is the best character in history.
If you disagree, I hope you get your fucking leg swept.

Season 3 trailer:

Season 3 pretty good so far with the introduction of some of the Characters from KK2

I think they used the KK2 characters really, really well. I really liked how they worked Kumiko into this. Chosun was weird at first....but I really like how they took his interaction with Daniel.

This show continues to do an amazing job at taking a bunch of characters from an 80s era where moral ambiguity was never a thing. They were white hats and black hats. But life isn’t like that at all. Fleshing out these characters a little more realistically has been great to watch.

Early in the latest season there was a flashback to 1965 and I thought “oh shit, a Krese backstory. Do I really want to have any sympathy for Krese?” And, with the way they handle it, I kind of do. Not much sympathy for the prick he is....but for how he ended up the prick he is.

Finished off season 3. Thoughts:

And I thought I was happy with how they handled Kumiko....I really liked the way they handled Ali. Ah...one of my boyhood crushes. The writing and acting was just authentic Ali to me. And she still looks great.

The Krese flashbacks were super useful and bad ass.

Another amazingly done finale fight scene. I really dig the way they shoot those.

We just finished Season 3 a little bit ago, I thought it was just ok.
I did enjoy the Krese backstory too.
Johnny is also my favorite. As far as "acting" goes, he comes across are really genuine. A lot of actors try too hard and/or it doesn't feel natural. I enjoy him.

I suspect that his acting shines on this show because he actually needs this to jumpstart his career. Machio if mailing it in, collecting a paycheck (though likely having a blast while doing it).

I would love to see Zabka get more roles after this is done. I think he could do well.

Agree with you both on Zabka. He was the initial surprise for me with this show....and he continues to be the biggest reason I enjoy the show.

Machio....I’m not sure if it’s mailing it in...or just his talent level. As much as I loved the KK movies....I never really liked his acting a lot. All that said....I think he’s gotten at least better as it’s gone on.

Zabka totally deserves a John Wick like role. Way more than someone like Bob Odenkirk (though I am intrigued by that movie)

The revelation of Zabka has had me wondering what other good actors were trapped in the 80s playing rigid caricatures of people, but who could actually act?

He has absolutely embraced who Johnny would be at this point. Similarly, I thought Elizabeth Shue nailed present day Ali. We already know she’s an amazing actor of course, so it’s not quite the revelation.

Everyone they’ve brought back has shown to be well prepared for who their character is now. They have done that really well. Evidently next up is Terry Silver (the ponytail gave that one away easily in the flashbacks)

I'm sure I saw KK3, but I don't remember any of it.

I've an issue with Sam...she's trained her whole damn life in karate and should easily best any of her opponents.

It’s was pretty bad....as bad as most third movies that were clearly done as one more cash grab.

Silver was not as menacing as Krese. But he had his own ways of manipulating, and used that to turn Daniel Cobra Kai for a bit. The kid he fought (can’t even remember the name) was just cartoonish bad guy. Too over the top.

We are clearly getting to see Silver....but if they keep that other kid out of it I will be just fine.

As great as they do in character development overall I would have to agree some that Sam is the biggest character with flaws like this.

I don’t know if I read the storyline that she’s been training all her life. It seems like she was as a kid, but after Mr Miyagi died they didn’t do much karate around the house.

That said...the weakness she shows so much is the fear in her head. Tori totally got too much into her head.

I don’t knock the acting as much as the writing with this. They overkilled the fear, ostensibly to set up the pivot point after Miyagi is knocked off the wall.

That might have seemed really good in the writing room, but it came across to me like Hulk Hogan getting his ass kicked and getting to the point where he takes every shot and shakes his head no as he gets up. It was a bit hammy and not well executed.

The bow staff was always right there...only now you decide to get it? Come on....they foreshadowed that hard at the start of the season.

Well, she's a pudgy girl, so....
I wasn't going to go there...but adds to the trained her whole damn life issues...she'd likely be built like a ballet dancer as karate creates long, lean muscle. Instead, she's a heifer.

Well, yeah. But I still operate under the understanding she trained a lot when little but not a lot since until this story line starts.

I just wonder which parent she got the more curvy frame from. Does mom just have a massive eating disorder? I feel like I’ve only ever seen her at a table drinking alcohol or coffee....but not eating.

how’s that for a rabbit hole...ha

How about the little brother that doesn't exist for 90% of the show?

Every time I see an ad for this, I’m tempted to watch then I see Ralph macchio’s stupid little weasely face and move onto something else.

He's in there some...but it's more about Johnny.

Johnny is the #1 character, sure. But Daniel is the #2 character. Saying he is “in there some” is a gross overstatement...
