Playoffs need to extend to at least 8 teams

The point of expansion isn't because 8/12/16 teams "deserve" a shot to win the title. It's to keep fans interested . This sport ( all sports ) are for the people watching them not the people playing them . Who fucking cares if a team "deserves" a shot? Who even knows what that word means ? What exactly did ND do this year to deserve a shot ? Or Bama in 18? Or OSU in 16? Those teams didn't deserve shit yet still got a shot. Whats wrong with keeping fans interested and doing the same for the UCF/UNC/Wisconsin/Iowa States of the world ?

no one gives a fuck about blow outs either genius

Bama barely beat Ole Miss this year. Clemson lost to Syracuse and Pitt in back to back years and won titles. The 14th ranked team can absolutely beat the 3rd ranked team any given week . Plus you may not have noticed but the playoff games haven't exactly been close anyway

Thats my point. Why add teams to be completely destroyed. ok a 3 might win a game once in a while, but a 8 seed, has zero chance.

Because A.there's no guarantee a team would get destroyed and B. It makes the sport more interesting in the regular season and makes the postseason wayyyy better
.

You're a CBB fan. What's the best weekend of the year in CBB?? The first 2 rounds of the tourney. Not because underdogs always win but because sometimes they do. Same thing here .

So you woul dbe happy to watch players for Cinci get all but murdered on the field by bama?

Don't be dramatic. 2014 OSU lost to 6 win VT and won the title. 2015 Bama lost to Ole Miss and won the title. 2016 Clemson lost to 3 win Syracuse and won the title and on and on . Would this year's Bama have beaten Cincy ? Probably . But any team that gave up 48 to Ole Miss isn't unbeatable . Thats not how sports works . I can tell yiu this much I would've watched that game where I didn't give a shit about Cincy vs GA. Thats the point

Side note

Cincy led UGA for more time in their game than Bama did in theirs vs UGA

Which is another reason why they will go with 12 ... play-in round is 5 v 12, 6 v 11, 7 v 10, 8 v 9. Those will be some damn good games.

First, wouldn't happen in a 12 team CFP. Second, hell yeah ... who the fuck doesn't want more football? More football is better than less football. Games decided on the field are better than those decided in a conference room.

You are missing so much:

- The fans want it because everyone wants their team to have a defined path to the playoffs.
- CFB needs it ... eliminating teams by committee isn't pre-BCS poll bad, but it's close.
- It will result in far more interesting regular season games, especially OOC where SOS will be as important as the number of losses you have.
- It may cause better players to choose to go to other programs than the top few.

I prefer 16 but 12 is ok. Shit 4 is ok if you set guidelines . 4 with this "eye test" bullshit is not ok
The problem with an even number and no byes is that you have Conf Champs having to play an extra game when non-CCG teams get a week of rest. Have to reward those who play and win the CCG. 12 is perfect:

- Rewards the top 4 CCs, then the next 4 with home games, and the last 4 have to travel. You are incented to not be in the 9-12 slots.
- Guarantees CCs are in (with some conditions), giving all teams and conferences hope.
- All 6 NY6 Bowls are involved in the CFP each year.

If you go to 16 you don't really need CCGs though. But I get your point although you'd still have conference Champs playing the opening round anyway just not all of them

Name brands. The others don't have cache. People say that don't matter...but it does.

Depends on the conference. A PAC champion with 1 loss isn't getting into the playoffs unless another conference champion has 2 losses. The Big 12 champ isn't getting in with 1 loss if they're up against any conference champion other than the PAC champion.
i dont think thats true but it probably depends on the losses

Right I get that but that's not a "deserving" reason. It's a monetary reason

I’ll Venmo you 100 bucks if you can find one SEC team that has played 3 FCS opponents in a season in the last 30 years(I turn 30 in March, and anything sports related that happened before I was born is ancient history)
how about Florida 2 FCS opponents the last 2 years (before 2020) and then 14 had Idaho and Eastern Kentucky but also Eastern Michigan, may as well have been 3 FCS

Oh, I'm agreeing with you....was just being a smart ass.

Definitely monetary and protecting those brands! Those brands really don't want any pesky upstarts crashing the party. We can't have shit like TCU/Baylor (or nearly Iowa State this year), or Sparty, or (fill in the blank) stealing their thunder. Bad for bidniz.

Do you need the difference between 2 and 3 explained to you?
Nope but for the most part i would take about 75% of the FCS over Eastern Michigan and Idaho so they arent exactly that different
