They truly are. I was car shopping about 3 years ago. I wanted an Explorer so I test drove one, sat with the guy for like 25 minutes trying to negotiate a price.. Wouldn't get anywhere near where I wanted so he brought in the manager.. That guy was a dick..

So as a last ditch effort the guy goes, "come outside with me for a second" outside was a sick ass Explorer. It was the one I had designed online just to mess around with and see what the price would actually be (60K). So he goes, "isn't this the one you designed? I'm like holy shit it is! - "I'll give you a sweet price on it..... I'll knock off $1,000)..

Walked away......

"but, but, but it's the one you designed!"

yes, yes it was but that was just to see if money wasn't an option and you were being a complete idiot about price

I let my wife do the negotiating. It’s her car and she’s a financial wizard so I knew she’d be okay but - I made sure to say “HELL NO!” loud enough for the salesperson to hear me when that first offer of $580 came across the table. That’s offensive. $600 to drive a car?? Get the fuck out of here. I can’t believe they even tried that shit. Then to get it almost $200 lower later. Give me a break.

I once asked a sales guy “If this is your offer to me with 800 credit, what does the guy with 600 or lower pay??” He tried down playing it like the difference between clean credit and shit credit is only a few bucks. I told him I wasn’t buying it. Ended up getting the the payment knocked down $115 bucks. Such bullshit having to even play that game.

That's why I will never go to a dealership without someone else (I did go by myself the last time) but my god it's ridiculous how sleezy they can be. But yeah never accept the first offer, haggle, haggle, haggle! If you don't get what you want, walk the F out!

Did that with another dealership many years ago, i got into my car and I thought I would have to call the cops... 6 sales guys run up to my car (window was down at time) and one guy puts hand on my car... "What can we do to get you this sale? We will do anything" I backed up as quickly as I could and if I had hit one of them bad!

still don't get the negotiating when you're talking about a monthly payment for a car you bought. not the price of the car, but the monthly payment.

i'm with @Kburjr who the fuck doesn't just pay for cash and be done with it.
