There's just a LOT going on with this. News all over the place. Something tells me you'll be able to buy a used gas pickup really cheaply in a couple years.

The Ford electric coming with a tiny VW TDI genny will be the brass ring, IMO. But others are catching up. Today, GM announced they'll be making the Nikola Badger. That's bad news for the Badger, but at least they're coming. NKLA stock having a good day.

electric cars have been around for a while and they have not made the price of gas-powered cars go down, so why would you think that would happen with trucks?

Have you even had a truck? Actually, I have some doubts you've ever owned a car.

A thousand pounds of batteries sitting over the back wheels, 1000lbs of torque and a built-in generator are three good reasons. Combustion engines just can't hang. If you take your truck on long trips, there's some figuring to do. But most work trucks stay local.

I own a truck. On my third truck, actually.

but why do you think this will affect the cost of gas-powered trucks when it hasn't done that for cars?

Because little electric cars are not competitive. Paying much more for an electric car does what...saves a stop at the gas station twice a month? Quieter? You get a gas car for trips and a truck for doing things. C'est la vie. An S550 and an electric truck is the perfect set-up for my nuclear family. But an electric truck also for every landscaper, contractor...peeps doing actual work.

The advantages of electric are performance and just the things you want when buying a truck.

I love the "Nikola" brand. What a kick in the dick.

Cost of ownership of a Tesla isn't really that much more than something like an Accord.

from the looks of it, the Nicola trucks look like a pipedream that isn't getting too much traction.

mostly they have been focusing on the shipping industry, not so much on private ownership.

someday I am sure we will see electric pick ups. There was a thread on it over at tHoop.

An Accord is the same size as a Tesla S. One costs like $33k and the other $90k. I'd like to see the $50k difference.

Basically, I don't believe you.

The model 3 specs line up more closely with a Civic.

My point was more to the fact that electric cars can be fairly affordable.

There are real advantages to an electric truck. I just don't see any with cars...at least non worth the $50k + price of a Model 3. I leased my wife's nice Grand Cherokee for $300/mo with a tow pkg and most good options! Maybe with resale, but that's nebulous.

You don't see any advantages with owning an electric car over a combustion engine?

I can think of more than a few, and that isn't even considering the Tesla's safety ratings

Good for you.

'Hey guys I'll be right back .. I have to go plug in my truck' - last words said before electric truck owner here got the shit stomped out of him in the parking lot for being a possible Democrat commie spy in the heart of America aka Alaska.

why wouldn't he just plug it in when he parked it in the first place?

Because Alaska?
I mean, you kind of want to limit the time outside, so if you have to go BACK out to plug it in, then you fucked up and are likely getting eaten by a polar bear.
