Coaching Carousel

Interestingly enough, the American has done pretty well.

They have a national title, and now a Final 4 appearance by another team.

But the perception of the conference is uninspiring. Rag-tag group of good to middlin athletic programs with little connection to each other.

While true, that Uconn title was a year removed from them being in the Big East. That's also the most ridiculous title of my lifetime. Lol.

And yeah the perception isn't great, but that's mostly because the league hasn't been good the last 2/3 seasons.

Not only was that the most ridiculous title, but this year's Houston team was the most ridiculous Final 4 appearance IMO.

So, they've gotten some luck...

Nobody except UConn makes conference decisions based on basketball when you actually have a viable football team.

Football brings in the money even in the ACC which arguably has the most marketable basketball package of everyone.

The revenue is higher, but they spend more.

I'm not going to claim I'm any kind of an expert by any stretch for college football, but I have to imagine that Syracuse values it's bball program more. Bigger brand, and local pull.

It's a moot point, they're not going anywhere, just saying, the Big East would take em back.

It's all about network deals. Basketball is an add on.

The higher-ups at Syracuse would murder Jim Boeheim live on national television if that is what it took for Syracuse football to become a national power

Again, I'm not saying I know everything there is to know... but it looks like they CLEAR more on basketball.

Make more on football, but ... spend more too.

Of course, Syracuse is no Alabama, so it should come as no surprise.

That may be true but the TV contracts are a huge part of a school's revenue. And while Football and Basketball are often negotiated together, Football is the one the networks spend the big money on.

As for Syracuse, I'm sure playing Big East basketball would be appealing to them. But not if it meant being an independent in football. Their football program isn't strong enough to be a successful independent in today's game.

There isn't a scenario where Syracuse leaves a P5 conference.

Not a men's hoop item but pretty big news. Kim Mulkey is leaving Baylor for LSU.

Being reported Mulkey getting 2.5 million per season. I mean holy shit, that's a ton, for a fringe revenue sport. I'm guessing her salary was doubled and then some.

I think that's pretty close to what she was making at Baylor. Maybe a little more.

Not according to this article. She was making nearly 2.3 at Baylor.

"Mulkey reportedly made $2.27 million a year at the private Baylor whereas Fargas made $700,000 per year at LSU.Mulkey reportedly made $2.27 million a year at the private Baylor whereas Fargas made $700,000 per year at LSU."

Fort Worth paper had an article in it the other day that said she was pissed about two things. One was the way administration handled the Briles crap. Another was the spat going on about where to build their new arena. She wanted it on campus but there is a big push to put in next to the Brazos.

Other hearsay is she doesn't get along with Drew.

Don't know if any of this is correct but something is bound to have been going on.
