Let’s face it….the logic behind top FIFA rankings has always been murky at best. Part of that always had some nefarious reasons to it, but I’ll just be optimistic that most of that is past these days (yeah, that’s possible).
I think another part that makes these rankings odd is they seem to not fully base this on the past results of a country, but also on expected future results. That’s…..not now you do such a rankings. They aren’t meant to prognosticate, at least not as much as they seem to.
I think they had expectation on Belgium to be a beast that could finally start to put a big tournament together. And not tripping (like France did against Turkey maybe) just solidified that.
Or maybe it’s as if always was and there was some…..reason that the Belgium federation got their team up to 1.
But that all has to be over now.

Yeah, France should've been #1 going into this tournament as defending world champs. I'd say whichever team wins Euro, with Brazil in the mix if they win Copa America, should be 1-3 with France in there somewhere.

Italy wins Euro, they are number 1. I think they are at 32 consecutive games without a loss. Brazil wins Copa, number 2. England wins Euro, could be number 1 too but they have not looked as good as Italy and don't have that streak. If Argentina wins Copa, they could move up alot. I think they around 16 or so games without a loss. Messi could win Balon D' Or with Copa victory too. He had 30 goals in La Liga, 9 in UCL, and not sure how many in Copa or WC qualifying. Messi negative is South America big dropoff after Brazil / Argentina. Not saying Euro teams have drop off either though with group games against San Marino, Farro Islands, etc.
