All Star Tuesday Morning

It's all math, really. I figured an expertz, like pnk would be able to crunch the numbers kinda quick, but I guess I'm wrong.

Welp, another Libyan Flag sighting

I don't know about works more or less hard, but in theory, they should be more skilled and that's worth something, right lawyer?
I was a waitress and a busser at two different restaurants between the ages of 13 and 18. I wouldn't call either job a highly skilled position.

Acceptable tip amounts change with the economy. I can remember not too long ago 10% was the standard

I mean, seems like quick math to me even.

Even 25% of a $40 bill is $10... That's from one table.... $10.50 + $10 for an hours worth of work at one table... I'm sure these people are raking in $30 an hour though as part of this "equitable wage" stuff.

how dare you doubt the skills of "pick up plate, bring plate to back of house" and think its on par with constantly checking in and providing front facing service to tables full of people...
You've never worked as a busboy, I'm assuming. Without that busboy, there are no clean tables to sit at, dirty dishes and no dishes with which to serve your food. Doing more than the minimum, which all good workers do deserves acknowledgement. Sometimes in the form of a tip.

They probably still get paid more than say the busboy and hostess.

One of restaurants that did it also moved to system where you order on your phone, servers only job is to deliver food, refill drinks, etc. Older folks wont like it but I don't think their business model caters to boomers and they're ok with it

Another restaurant I go to now has tip for server line and tip line for kitchen staff.....

See...when you begin a statement with "it's simple math" you are losing a lot of your audience.

so picking up plates and making a wiping motion with your hands is on par with getting orders correct and making sure 4+ people at a single table are constantly happy for an hour?

Highly skilled may be a misnomer. But to the customer, the difference in good and bad service is noticeable.

Seriously, there should be, if not already, a study that shows the more attractive the server, the better their tip is

"without busboys." That's funny.

Anyway, the places that I worked at, servers/bartenders "tipped out" busboys and bar backs, meaning a percentage of their tips are shared with them.
