I heard the other day during one of the games the lowest a team was ranked before final rankings was #6 and that Ohio State team made the playoff.

Well today is the reveal of the CFP rankings. That should certainly shed some more light on this being a possibility. But really, as long as Oregon is ahead of Iowa the Ducks have a shot at getting into the 4th spot as a conference champion.
I think the committee values a conference championship and Oregon having a conference title, beating a top 15th ranked Utah team that they had previously lost to, a win on the road to Ohio State, the Ducks absolutely can be in the discussion to get in. A 2 loss non conference title winner in Alabama won't get in.
Look at the eye test too, if the committee really wants to look at things in depth they would know that Oregon got robbed in their loss to Stanford. The screw job in Palo Alto, beating the team that had beaten them before in Utah, a road win at Ohio State. 2 loss Oregon looks appealing and legit
Please check that final drive vs Stanford and tell me that isn't a robbery.Lol you really want them to take a deep eye test at Oregon?
Theyd also see
Scraping by Fresno State at home 31-24
Surviving at home 24-17 to a 4 win Cal team (needed a 4th down stop to seal it)
Hanging on 34-31 to beat a meh 8-4 UCLA team
Sluggish mess against a completely out of whack Washington team.
and then you get the losses to a terrible Stanford team (lol @ claiming the refs cost the game) and the beatdown by Utah
Outside of a WEEK 2 win against Ohio State theres nothing really appealing to the eye about Oregon
Tallest midgetPlease check that final drive vs Stanford and tell me that isn't a robbery.
Wins are wins.

It’s Possibility (which I have argued with the new Michigan fan) but it’s not a very good possibility. The things Oregon will need to happen is a lot. And even then it’s not guaranteed they get in.Well today is the reveal of the CFP rankings. That should certainly shed some more light on this being a possibility. Oregon would have a better resume than Baylor and Iowa. Iowa didn't have to play some of the Big Ten's hardest teams. Baylor comes from the Big 12, besides Oklahoma who is there? Okie State is a nice story but they aren't fooling anyone in being a serious top 6 team.People keep saying Oregon has 2 losses worse than anyone with a shot which is false
A&M will be a worse loss than Utah in about 5.5 hourd . Baylor lost to TCU .
The loss to Stanford is the jig blemish though
Imo in the OP scenario the final 4 SHOULD be
Georgia
ND
Baylor
Iowa
But WOULD be
Georgia
ND
Baylor
Bama
Only exception is if UGA beats Bama by 24+
I dont see the committee giving Bama an instant rematch for a game they gey blown out in
But Oregon wont have a better resume than Baylor OR Iowa even if this scenario played out
You responding to yourself now? There is no chance more than one person has such a ridiculous claim after a team has not only the worst loss, but the two worst losses and struggled with multiple bad teams, including trailing 17-10 to Cal and needing to score 2 touchdowns in the 4th quarter to beat them. But hey -- they won the cripple fight in the PAC though. It’s Possibility (which I have argued with the new Michigan fan) but it’s not a very good possibility. Essentially they need:
UGA to wax bama
Iowa to handle Michigan by more then a score
Baylor to beat Junior ugly like 10-9 or some crap
Cincy to lose

Oregon would have wins @Ohio State and a revenge win vs Utah that puts them as a conference champion. I dont see how the committee could leave out a 2 loss conference champion who is well within a ranking position to jump into the 4th or 5th spot of the rankings and put in a 2 loss non conference champion who would have just loss to the very team they'd have to play in game 1 of the playoff.
If Alabama loses to Georgia and gets into the playoffs that means we see Georgia vs Alabama again in a month because Bama would be 4 and Georgia would be 1. Unless the committee does something stupid and to avoid such a thing moves alabama up to 3 after their loss to avoid a immediate rematch. Didnt they do this a couple years ago? Made a team that should've been #1 the #2 team to avoid an immediate rematch.
Baylor is ALREADY ranked ahead of Oregon. So is Okie State. So there is absolutely nothing Oregon can do against a 3 loss Utah, who you've already played that would put you ahead of either team.Oregon would have a better resume than Baylor and Iowa. If the committee looks at the entire body of work for teams, there isn't a 2 loss team Oregon would get in over. They have arguably the worst resume of any two loss team because of the dominance they lost to Utah and the embarrassing loss to Stanford. When you add in struggling and needing a late score to beat 4 win Cal, struggling against 4 win Washigton, Oregon has zero chance to jump teams. If they were playing a top 5 team in the PAC championship, then maybe -- when they are playing a 3 loss Utah -- NO CHANCE.
