Texas to use non profit charity to pay Offensive Linemen 50k a year

Northwestern is 8th on that global net worth list.

ARISE WILDCATS AND CLAIM YOUR COLLEGE FOOTBALL DOMINANCE

i did a thing GIF
All the nerd schools will now rule college football, or something.

I can't speak for the other nerd schools, but if the other nerd schools are like Northwestern I'd say 99 percent of those making up that net worth think college football refers to the soccer team and don't care.

:hurt:

LOL.. but your cool with coaches making over 10 mil and assistants getting closer to 2 mil a year.. and the kids should be happy with getting a scholarship

Everyone getting paid except the players..

There was a time when I bought the “just be happy with your education” BS. But NIL is a no brainer. People who hate it the most are the people who would bitch the loudest if they couldn’t profit from their own work and image.

When was OU's last major upgrade?

Nebraska just dropped $155 million.
5 years ago they started spending another $160 Million on the stadium but then spending never stopped and it's waaaay up over that now. It's always something. Right now they're planning to spend another $16 Million for a new LED lighting system and subsurface for the playing field. The basketball arena has received major upgrades (and is now getting more), the track is getting upgraded, the baseball field has received a lot of money over the past few years, the golf course has been improved, etc., etc. Another major upgrade right now is the new women's softball stadium to the tune of $27 Million. It's an arm race.

This is the confusing part to me. Many of those 10 mil/2 mil ones don't really have the previous results to warrant it. They may in the future, but right now....................

The ones that do have the results to show they are worth it damn well deserve it.

Again, this is not on the school.. if your base is as passionate as i know they are, they will do something like this too.
Of course it's not the school. It's the boosters. And who ALWAYS gets schools in trouble? Boosters. Every time. And it will be the boosters or players who finally screw the pooch.

Prior to this a player literally couldn't profit from a Youtube page for his music or any other subject matter entirely unrelated to athletics.

The NCAA came down on more than one.

Nebraska expanded the east part of it's stadium in 2013 at a cost of $63 million.

You're right in that it's never ending.

Unless the contributors at Durex(or some other named company) are getting big donations from boosters from a specific school to support said kid, it is a huge difference. A charity has the ability to be set up as a non profit, and then have money from boosters placed into it, and sent to kids as payment for whatever small charitable work they do. This is a slippery slope.

To look at this in a different light, the companies currently supporting these kids with sponsorship deals are established companies and looking to boost thier product with sponsoring a big name player. No one is creating a company and product simply to support these kids.
This is about optics and it appears the new way to funnel booster money to a kid is through non profit charities. Thats not a good look honestly.
So other than you don’t like the look of it, there really isn’t a difference? I don’t know what the slippery slope would be. If I want to hire one of these kids for a birthday party, instead of a clown, I can now.

Kids get money, nobody gets hurt.

I've been to countless games at Memorial Stadium. I remember when the entrances to the restrooms were really narrow and it was a helluva hassle for guys to try to get past each other, especially when everyone was bundled up in heavy coats. But I'm kinda old school on some of this stuff. It was great being crammed in close to each other during OU/NU games. And since the fan bases got along so well there wasn't a lot of cheap stuff even if we were constantly bumping into each other, standing up in front of someone, etc. At least we will always have our memories. :tsk:

All I wanted was to play NCAA FOOTBALL again on the game console. Not this.

I am fine with it, why, because they are hired employee's of that University. Students are just that, there to learn something. They get free room and board, and education, and meals provided in most cases. Those educational scholarships are worth a ton of money, and its not to be taken lightly as you are doing. You add 85 times the amount of each scholarship at a University and see if that number doesnt astound you. In Alabama's case, the employees of the University are State employee's that work for a state supported University. Of course, that University makes millions off its football program, but it pumps it all back into salaries for its coaches and the best facilities that money can buy for all sports at that school, as well as returning some of the money the state is funding them with. It also spends money on research and development of new products for its players(say thank you for the sideline medical tents devised by Alabama and some of its engineering students). These are things the money goes for at Alabama that enhances the experience our players get when they become a scholarship student. That education is worth big money, but if you are asking if the 10 million we pay Saban and his staff is worth it, absolutely. The number of titles on the books since Saban got there is evidence of that.

Clearly. Just be honest about it like that. No point in pretending this is college football’s downfall. The transfer portal is currently doing that all on its own.
I dont disagree with that statement at all.

If you cant see the difference, no amount of me explaining it to you will help that. Sorry for your lack of vision into what is actually happening, but we cant all see things clearly.

Interesting tidbit. I’m actually sitting right now in a tax seminar and one of the guys has a client that plays for Alabama and he said they 2k for bowl money but they cut the check to the parents in order that the kids aren’t taxed.

I honestly didn’t know that and don’t know how this NIL stuff will be treated but someone is going to get into tax issues and it will happen sooner rather than later.
That's actually in the written rules ... for bowls, CFP, conf champ games, the school can provide money to the parents to attend the game - air fare, hotel, meals, etc. It's not really for the player, it's for the parents to go to those events. This has been a rule for a long time.

I can't wait for these guise to get these monies and then bolt through the portal to see how many other schools they can get to fork up MORE monies! :dhd:
