The coaches? This doesn't have anything to do with the coaches. The coaches aren't encouraging or discouraging players. They are standing there watching this BS just like everyone else. The question is do teams who cant play in the bowl still get their money from the bowl? Because the loophole here is team accepts bowl invite, goes to location and then opts out of bowl game due to covid. Because I was wondering why just decline the bowl invite if you don't want to participate in it due to player opt out, then i thought about maybe teams gets the bowl money when they accept and then it's like "Oh shoot sorry we got covid can't play, but thanks for the check."

I'd think there would be some refund just for costs associated if a team had actually made the trip.

Pre-sold tickets and advertising revenues would obviously have to be refunded.

It's typically the 'Chamber of Commerce' that sets up these bowls in their cities, so likely them taking it in the shorts. They'll lose hotel, restaurant, bar, apparel, and transportation revenues. I doubt the city govt bails them out, but I don't know for sure.

To me it just seems like teams are very quick to opt out of their bowl game then to try everything they possibly can to play in it. For instance in the Hawaii bowl, that thing was canceled within 24 hours of kickoff. The other team made the trip, you're telling me they couldn't field 30 guys to play the game?

Texas AM and whoever just opted out, they had plenty of time to come up and figure out something. Texas AM case, it was so much in advance another team is willing to step up and play. That tells me Texas AM really just didnt want to play in the bowl game. Instead, they get their practice time in and prep for next year.

Next year teams should be heavily fined if they opt out due to COVID.

So what many of you are saying is the CFB season no longer matters to you and you no longer pay attention to regular season games once both teams have 2 losses. You only watch teams in Oct/Nov that still have a shot at the playoffs?

Example: You didn't watch the PAC CCG because Oregon was (10-2) and Utah was (9-3).

Is that accurate?

No one watched Oregon vs Utah, and if they did they turned it off well before halftime.
