Let's take a moment to laugh at Mike McCarthy

Jerry is good at public relations and making money but a disaster as GM. How many bad coaching hires has he had since buying the team? Having good talent won't get you to the Super Bowl when having folks like McCarthy coaching the team.
He put, and has paid to keep, McClay over drafting and personnel. That alone moves him up from "worlds worst GM" to "stop meddling" status in my book.

The easier question would be how many "GOOD" head coaching hires has he had. That is easy.....Jimmy Johnson. Has not had a good one since.

He did hire an over the hill Bill Parcells but the burnout was obvious.

How he handled Landry, Chan, Campo, and sticking with Jason so long are the only coaching changes I have an issue with so far. Not sure who other than McCarthy would be doing better for Dallas right now.

Think they would have fared better with Quinn.

Hindsight however.

To be honest no one would. You could take Sean Payton or Bill Belichick and they Cowboys would still have the same issues. Why? Because Jerry Jones is an egomaniac that has to get all the credit. Each year the pundits are proven correct when they say Jimmy Johnson built the championship teams. Now common sense will tell use that a rookie college coach is not going to build a dynasty by himself. It makes sense to believe it was a collective decision on who was drafted. However, I think Jimmy had full say on who was on his coaching staff and I that is where the difference it.

Another thing to consider is the current NFL is the league of parity. When the Cowboys had their success under Jimmy and Jerry it was without the constraints of the salary cap. When the cap was started in 94 the Cowboys had a majority of their core players still in their rookie contracts. The Herschel Walker trade was paying big dividends. The Cowboys were the NFL's richest franchise and the name alone would get them players. The salary cap forced hard decisions.

The 2021 Dallas Cowboys on paper were loaded in my opinion. This is a team with talent that had absolutely no business losing in the wildcard round. The problem here is accountability. Who holds Jerry accountable. Any head coach is a lame duck coach even a hall of famer like Bill Parcells.

The 2 biggest problems with the Cowboys are Jerry Jones and coaching. They actually tie in together. Jerry does not allow his coach to pick his staff. That means the head coach does not have the respect and control needed to have a winning team. It is hard to coach a team where the decision are not made by the coach on the field but instead by the coach in the owners box.

Jerry has always interfered in football matters. The Cowboys would have been more successful with a competent GM with Jerry just writing the checks.

In McCarthy's defense, the had a 6 game improvement in their record. The players aren't ready to win playoff football.

The NFCe is historically bad.
