What are you giving up for Lent this year?

Where is Lent in the Bible?
Lent is a 40-day segment of the church year marked by a time of prayer and preparation to celebrate Easter. The number 40 is connected with many biblical events, but especially with the forty days Jesus spent in the wilderness preparing for his ministry by facing the temptations that could lead him to abandon his mission and calling. Christian churches use this period of time for introspection, self-examination, and repentance, a special time to ponder the suffering and death of our Savior. It is also a time of humble joy as we confidently remember that the price is paid, sins are covered, and death is defeated.

Sounds made up.
Furthermore, there are no commands for Christians in the Bible regarding mandatory fasting or dietary rules. Such acts are based purely on church and man-made tradition.

sounds made up. how come it isn't in the Bible?
Lent is a 40-day Christian holiday that was established after the Bible was written. Yes, it is man-made; not God-made. Easter and Christmas celebrations are also man-made.

So nowhere, cool.

Look, Idc if people adhere to Lent, it's all good. I just don't understand why the church took it upon itself to craft such a thing in the first place. Sure, it has all of the symbolism in there, but God tells you in the Bible what he wants/expects. Making something up for a little over a month doesn't change anything.

Power and control.

Same motives for everything they did for two thousand years.

Aren't Baptists Christians?

you would be shocked to know that I am a deacon in a southern baptist church. yes - we are Christian

"Christian" in the most basic of definitions means "follower of Christ". There are many different ways to "follow Christ" thus many different Christian churches & denominations. Most teach basically the same thing and have similar core structures; the primary differences are in the details.
