Tony Gwynn would've batted about .650 or better if they shifted like that back then. For real, you’re a major league player and they’re giving you a half of a field sized hole to hit at. Deal with it, make them stop doing it.
Greed.I haven’t followed this at all and I’d prefer to do as little work as possible to figure it out, so is there some specific things that are known that are holding it up?
Eventually they’ll find a way to rid the game of all strategy.View attachment 64049
I hate the shift, but just learn to hit around it.
In the Words of Willie Keeler: "“Keep your eye on the ball and hit 'em where they ain't,”
This is exactly me. Frankly, the only idea I was open to was limits on how many can be in the outfield.I’m not a fan of shifts. But banning them is stupid. But I am happy that a routing grounder to short won’t be a single anymore
I'm not sure that shifts will be banned to that extent. I have actually seen what the rules would be. But I'm assuming you'll still have infielders shifted much like before. With the shortstop or second baseman directly behind the bag. Essentially putting three guys on one side of the infield. And still having gaping holes around the infield.I’m not a fan of shifts. But banning them is stupid. But I am happy that a routing grounder to short won’t be a single anymore
Don't hold your breath.Sounds like a lot of progress was made last night. Several people reporting they feel good about a deal being made
My sentiments exactly.Don't hold your breath.
Al, you and I just want to enjoy our national pastime. The owners and players don't really give a damn for the average fan.My sentiments exactly.
Owners want to keep the luxury tax threshold relatively low and continue to pay the young guys pittances. Union wants less service time manipulation and a luxury tax that's higher and in line with the additional revenue that MLB keeps reporting.I haven’t followed this at all and I’d prefer to do as little work as possible to figure it out, so is there some specific things that are known that are holding it up?
A million per year is a pittance in your opinion. The average man or woman in this country make $52,000 per year.Owners want to keep the luxury tax threshold relatively low and continue to pay the young guys pittances.
$700K is a good amount of money, but the league games the fuck out of the system and depresses salaries on the low end. No other pro league gives six years of team control to all rookies.A million per year is a pittance in your opinion. The average man or woman in this country make $52,000 per year.
Those poor owners.
