It’s pure madness.
We’ve all had bad colds here the last few weeks. Two home COVID tests were taken and said negative. But, I don’t know. There has been some case climb locally, lots of students and teachers going down. Feels like a spike. And the only one in this whole family that hasn’t even had a sniffle….my daughter who is the only one to get the booster so far (needed it for travel).

If this is the latest strain….well….it wasn’t a simply couple day cold, but it wasn’t much worse than that.

That’s hardly something to lock 12 million people in their home for.

ba.2 isn’t acting the same here as it is in Europe. It’s bad there. Not so bad here for it.

I had to visit China (well, pass through Chinese customs on route to Thailand) with a passport that had my name spelled wrong and differently than on my plane ticket. Through a little trickery, and some shithouse luck, I was able to forge through. I mean literally forge as in I had to kinda/sorta forge my own signature. To make matters worse, this was during the time a couple of years ago when two Canadians were being held as spies.

It’s stupid that you are that locked down. With precautions, it’s not hard to live a normal life. I’ve been all over the country since Covid and have pretty much done everything. Only got Covid once.

We’ve traveled a lot too. Testing here to fly to Europe and again in Germany to fly back could not have been more different. In Germany they are in full hazmat suits. In the US a nurse in gloves and mask. Seeing the different approaches around our own country has been interesting too.

Unless this rough cold I’ve had is COVID I’ve never had it, or just been asymptomatic even wit my traveling around.

I think when your aim is so much to control your populace to the level that China does this kind of lock down is an easy thing to do. And maybe even tempting as hell….suppress them physically and control them all the while telling them it’s for their own good. It’s overkill…and maybe for other purposes than public health.

my wife is headed to punta canta in a couple of weeks. She doesn’t need a Covid test to get there but has to have a negative test to come home. Crazy. Apparently though, if you test positive the resort let’s you stay there for free for 2 weeks until the negative test

One year ago they probably would've been reporting this and telling us we should do the same as the numbers have decreased greatly from people staying home. They'd probably tell us too that the "Screaming" out of the windows at night are actually people yelling to their neighbors and the community doing some sort of bonding communication and are being creative in finding ways to still communicate with their neighbors even when being told to stay home.

I mean I guess in a way it is good the media is finally changing their tone and making what is happening in China is "Too much" it means the narrative is changing and they are going away from support of this type of measures, but you'd have a pretty short memory to think a year ago they wouldn't be hailing this as an aggressive and determined way to help reduce covid numbers and somehow portray what the citizens are doing as a creative and unique way to stay in touch with their neighbors during strict necessary lockdowns.

We went through that planning in Germany…what if anyone is positive? Who stays with them? How do we handle it? That was nine of us freezing in Munich.

Id much rather have faced a possible two week hold for free at a resort in Punta Cana. Lol.
