2022 Season Thread

when did they start taking wins away?
Been going on for a few years at least, but this is the first time it's happened to the race winner. Jimmie Johnson had a second place taken away a few years back and Kyle Busch had a Busch Series win taken away.

But if you wanna get real technical, the first ever Cup race back in 1949 had the win taken away after the fact and given to Jim Roper.

I have seen point deductions, but I havent seen a winner stripped of the actual win since Ricky Rudd.

Maybe they didnt like someone that close to Chase in playoff points LOL
Not only did they take them away they gave them to chase :pound:

Rudd was black flagged, he was never considered the winner of the race even though it was BS.

As far as I know this is the first time a win has been taken away after the fact since electronic scoring started. In the Cup series at least. Like I said, Kyle Busch had a Busch Series win taken away a few years ago.

Apparently it was fairly common in the 50's.

What they found

NASCAR found an issue with the front fascia of both cars, stating there was material there that should have not been.

Brad Moran, managing director of the Cup Series, told the media in Pocono that the issue discovered effects “aero of the vehicle.”

Guarantee if it was on the 11 and 18, it was on the 19 and 20 too

Weird I have never heard of Nascar being secretive about DQs before?

Usually they announce this is why we DQ you Mother fucker. Now they are all like. We cant say anything because they can still appeal? :wtf2:
That has never mattered before. This isnt a court of law. Sorry. But the more secretive Nascar becomes, the more WWE they seem.
I wonder if Chase finishes in 4th if there would have been 3 DQs? :heh:

But also, whatever they found didn’t change the shape of the car or the weight of the car, so it was pretty well didn’t really make any difference

I'm curious to see what level penalty Nascar deems it. If it's an L3, Hamlin and Busch are fucked.

What happens if it’s an L3?

Level 3 Penalty

Level 3 (L3) penalties may include but are not limited to:

  • Counterfeiting or modifying Next Gen single source vendor supplied parts and/or assemblies.
  • Engine infractions (e.g. cubic inch displacement, compression ratio, long block assembly, and/or internal parts) not meeting the rules.
  • Engine performance enhancements (e.g. nitrous oxide, vacuum leaks, etc.).
  • ECU/EFI parts not being used as the rules permit.
  • Altering/modifying tires and/or fuel.
  • Violating the Vehicle Testing Policy.
Penalty options:

  • Loss of 120-180 points
  • Loss of 25-50 playoff points
  • No playoff eligibility for driver and/or team owner
  • 6-race suspension for team member(s) on team roster
  • 1-2 team event roster positions subject to suspension
  • NASCAR could suspend the car number for one race
  • $250,000 – $500,000 fine

you know what I didnt read in these levels of discipline. Disqualification & Giving wins (playoff points) to another team.

So was the foreign substance on the wrap itself (would have detectable in the pre-race inspection) or was it under the wrap which would make it useless?

Did they use some of the ceramic coating/wax stuff? Do that stuff slip through the air cleaner that the vinyl wrap?

WTF?

Sounds like to me they used a front fascia that was made of something completely different than what's allowed.

So possibly a slightly different shape for better aero/downforce?

It would be nice if NASCAR would just come out and tell us WTH is going on.

Yet fit the template and the cars made weight, and thus provided no competitive advantage. But they’re pretty strict on what goes on these new cars, so they’re gonna set an example. But just from a gambling standpoint, they should take away all the points and fine em, but not take away the win

Well, the deadline has passed for JGR to appeal the DQ, and they didn't.

So the front fascia ended up having 2 extra layers of clear vinyl underneath the wrap. I guess this would make the front end sturdier and would help with downforce.
