Yeah, not great for this year for sure. But it seems salvageable still. The flaw in what's been said is that only kids with crystal balls pointing to Michigan are our only shot moving forward. We have a annual recruiting even that always happens at the end of July and we usually get a few recruits from it. We have a bunch of kids coming already, like these two:
One has no crystal ball predictions, the other has a low prediction for UGA that was put in in Fall 2020. Which is why I keep saying to pump the breaks, it's July. Michigan still has plenty of opportunity to grab a few guys to fill out the class just fine. Obviously not to the level we would have hoped for after beating OSU and winning the B10 title, but still fine and not to the sky is falling levels others are predicting.
I'm not sure we're "screwed" if we land inside the top 20...the 2018 senior class just won us a B10 title and it was the lowest ranked class in the Harbaugh era at #22. If we land just 4-5 more 4 star kids, we're well within a salvageable class. If we happened to get a 5 star in there, even better.
In terms of becoming Alabama? Sure. A lost class. but in terms of trying to maintain where we are, not so much.Freeling is someone we are interested in. McDonald not so much. Our OL recruiting is weird. We have a stacked OL room right now, so PT is a big issue. Plus we had late turnover at the OL coaching position. Could be the worst part of our class. The one top 100 guys may flip to Auburn, of all schools.
Sorry, but if you are outside the top 10, it's a lost class. Even inside the top 10 but not top 3 or 4 is not good. The only caveat is NIL ... if teams like UTjr, Miami, Louisville and the like get a few top 100/250 guys we may see the top 5-10 flattening out a bit.
Prior to 2016 that is how it was ... the difference between 2 and 10 wasn't huge. Last 4 or 5 years the top 3 have been as far from the 10th team as the 10th team was to the 35th team. I am making those figures up, and they are from my recollection, but the differences are real I just don't have the data at my fingertips.

I'd even add, unless you're really top 5 there's not a ton of difference between 5-10 and 10-20 typically. The difference now days is really top 100 recruits. And even when Michigan was getting top 10 classes, sometimes nearing the top 5, we were sorely lacking in top 100 players. And that's why we looked like what we looked like against UGA."screwed" might not be the way to put it. But it definitely takes a lot of good breaks in player development to catch the teams in like the top 5-10 if you are hanging at the low end of the top 25.
Exactly, and there is no reason that UM should be anywhere near top 20 instead of top 10. They screwed up not getting rid of Harbaugh. He screwed UM by flirting with the NFL. Big time."screwed" might not be the way to put it. UM is limiting our ability to get top 5 classes in the NIL era. So as I see it, it's really irrelevant to the next few years until that changes. Michigan's 6-10 ranked classes have performed about as good as the lower (10-20) ranked ones. To get the top 100 recruits, we're going to have to pay them. And our University is limiting that in recruiting. This isn't exactly new, we were limited before by academic standards (I'm still pissed at the University not admitting Xavier Worthy), but with the success last year we should have been able to build on that (even with the Harbaugh drama). But kids are literally being bought, and we're not in those conversations on purpose. And that's killing us.Exactly, and there is no reason that UM should be anywhere near top 20 instead of top 10. Nope. That's kinda the point. If we finish top 20, we're in the normal range of our typical recruiting classes. Only disappointing when you consider our on the field performance last year. Understandable when you factor the Harbaugh NFL stuff + the failure of our University in promoting NIL for recruits.were y'all getting top5 classes prior to the NIL era?
I need you to keep being negative.Cool. Another one you expected to get. That leaves 4 other guys left that you're leading for. I also said you'd probably finish 20-25 because I knew you had guys that were going to commit.
I need you to keep being negative.
Since you called out our class, we've gained 3 four star recruits in less than week.
I'm not sure I understand this perspective. Most classes aren't filled by players you're "expected to get". A player by definition is one you're not expected to get until you recruit them there.I think that's about all of the 4* they were expected to get. lol. Now is where we really see what they can do. Pulling guys there werent generally expected to, or not.

Michigan is gaining traction on a bunch of recruits. More are signing onto the visit at the end of the month by the day, and yesterday it came out that Michigan has the slight lead for this 5 star ATH out of DC
You all are putting too much emphasis on 247 Crystal balls. Michigan is doing exactly what it has to to try and make up ground; get lots of commitments that are decently ranked.

Sam Webb posted about it yesterday on the Michigan 247 site. Spoke with him, came away with the sense that Michigan was leading. That's about it.I've seen a few Michigan fans claim they are "leading" for Harbor. But I don't think there is any real evidence to prove that as true. He seems pretty guarded about his recruitment thus far.
South Carolina fans also claim they "lead" for him. Lol
I'd take any word from recruiting site writers at this point on him with a huge grain of salt.
At a time when good recruiting news for Michigan has been fleeting, some of it is building with the top target on its 2023 board. I’m hearing the Wolverines are trending up in the recruitment of five-star athlete Nyckoles Harbor. These rumblings come on the heels of my “Behind the Uniform” interview with the talented youngster… an interview that left me with the opinion were among the top few on his list of seven finalists. It is now my opinion, however, that the Wolverines have gained a slight edge in the race.
I don't think top 150 kids are "in the rough"not trying to be a hater or troll but I follow recruiting down here.. I never even heard of this kid
I could never work for Rivals I suppose
247 really has his score boosted. 58th nationally???
shit man could be a real diamond in the rough

Sure. But getting him on campus is actually pretty significant for an official visit to our biggest recruiting event every year. And I posted two other recruits earlier in the thread who confirmed attendance. So we have some talent coming in at the end of the year for officials. It wouldn't take much to vault us back into a normal position. You get 2 more 4 star kids, especially a 5 star, and add a few three stars in there and Michigan is well within the top 20 again.Lol. Sam Webb is captain sunshine pumper for Michigan though. Like I said, huge grain of salt. Especially with guys like that.
