The ex mayor and NASCAR officials are the only ones that thought this was a good idea. There was no chance this was gonna be anything other than a disaster. For gambling purposes and my pool that I have a shot at first place, I hope they get the Cup race in, but if it completely washed it out, it would be fitting.Fucking hilarious that rain screws up the race absolutely no one wanted.
NASCAR has tried 3 different venues to make it in the Chicago area. They raced at Soldier Field in the 50’s(which I’d watch for the novelty), a track that the truck series raced at that lasted only 3 years, and Chicagoland, which was one of the best 1.5 mile tracks on the schedule, but still couldn’t draw.
Gateway is close to St Louis, but still in Illinois, and it’s sold out every race, but they couldn’t just take that win and be satisfied, they had to push for some gimmick race that shuts down part of a major city in cars that aren’t meant for street courses.
I really hope this is a one off.
