2024 Recruiting Thread

Wow 5* DT Justin Scott just committed to Ohio State. Did not see that coming

Did not see that coming. We weren’t nearly as confident about him as we were right after his official visit, thinking he would stay more north, or follow the NIL to Miami. This is a great gift for you guys, he’s really really good. He has the potential to be a Jalen Carter type of player.

Meant "great get" not "gift." Also kept him from UM ... they aren't happy on their boards!

Dylan Stewart trending toward us as well and Lightfoot likely committing tomorrow. This DL class is turning out to be stellar. Was looking bleak a few months ago
just need to flip a safety

That’s not the way we operate with NIL. We have plenty of money, but you don’t get it till you get there. It’s a form over substance thing, but for those teams that attract players for other reasons, it’s the better way to do it.

We will actually have five or six offensive lineman.
lol so the NIL portion is for once they show up? To get them to commit must be the bag portion of it..

y'all really ruined CFB

For someone who follows recruiting, you really don't know what you are talking about, and you aren't keeping up with current events. This has been reported by many sources. It's really simple ... there are teams who aren't as desperate as others, feel that culture is the most important thing you can have, and simply don't like the idea of bidding on non-proven players. Here is how it goes for UGA:

1. If a player comes in and is all about upfront NIL, then UGA is going to pass on them. They will continue to recruit them, but you will not see UGA paying out hundreds of thousands or millions for a high school player. We don't have to. We have more to offer than the teams doing that.

2. That isn't to say we aren't fully in the NIL business, and it's not that we aren't telling them they will get NIL. Of course, we are. But, it's positioned differently. The player and family are told that once they get there, UGA has NIL programs in place to get money to players. There are baselines that everyone will get, and then you can earn more if you perform better as you will get more sponsorships, etc.

3. In this manner the NIL budget is committed to players who want to be at UGA, and who do the things that are required of them. NIL is dedicated to keeping people on the roster, and then used for transfers who also have a proven track record. It keeps existing players from getting pissed off that some kid who has never played a snap is getting more than players who have been in the system for years. They can do that once they get there by performing, but not unless and until.

I've been saying this since NIL started - it's truly a form over substance issue. Both teams are enticing players to come to their school, one is just more direct, while the other method is more indirect and can only be done by teams that have the ability to offer far more to the players than NIL.

You can call bullshit all you want and I am not going to argue with you. I am just telling you how it's going down at teams that aren't desperate and have other things to sell the top players. You keep believing that we are buying all our players ... I know better, and will sit back and watch our superior culture and the natties roll in.

Stop and read what you typed and read what I typed. We were in the game with people and were dropping bags at some level, I am sure. You are the one denying that you did that, not me.

You are the one on the high horse saying you all weren't paying players before, but now that NIL is legal you guys are all in. Who exactly is on their high horse? It's not me.

just saying it's an even playing field.... now :)

Yeah. I remember seeing he was almost a lock for scUM earlier this year. Great pick up. This class is shaping up to be really good all around and not just on the offensive side of the ball like I originally thought

Was considered an ND lean for a while until the last couple months. Brutal to lose out on a hometown kid.

Yes, I was under the impression it was between ND and scUM before his OV at Ohio State. Think we are trending hard for 3 other big time defensive commits and are still in the race for 2-3 more.

Gerry Hamilton (On3 UT) said yesterday that it is a tosu/UT battle, said Oregon has faded.. won't rule them out but he's close to putting in a CB/Forecast to UT for him

Baker is apparently into NIL, family wants a school that is close to travel by plane.. Thank goodness for direct flights to Austin by SWA :)

I have a hard time taking on3 seriously. I remember when on3 forecasted Richard Young to Oregon and then he committed to Alabama a few hours later. Fong seems to think Oregon is the clear leader for Baker.

there was some screenshots from an oregon mod that i saw over the weekend and he basically confirmed what he was hearing.. also gave respect to Gerry

We'll see. On3 has taken some major L's recently. When 247 and On3 disagree, I just assume on3 is wrong. I'll change that assumption if On3 get some Ws.

Fong literally just took an L last week... on one of his CBs (had Weston to LSU and he chose aggy).

It's not the site.. look at who is the one covering said recruitments.. again an Oregon insider/mod talked to Gerry and he agreed.. however he still thinks Oregon is in the thick of it

Everyone is going to take loses. NIL world had changed things. Everyone now has a “bag budget”. At anytime someone can blow that budget on single player. Smart schools won’t do that, but occasionally a moron will show up

Which Oregon insider? Justin Hopkins (the top Oregon on3 person) was pretty confident Baker is headed to Oregon a few days ago.

Don't forget about Eddrick Houston. Not committing til next month but it's looking very good.

As for 247 vs On3. I was just bitching about 247 rankings. They have 1/3 of the top 21 in Texas as WRs. That is just stupid and lazy. On3 has 4.
