2025 Recruiting Thread

4 star WR Chris Lawson out of California has committed to Washington.

Back from vactation. Holy crap texas missed on a ton of players last week. What's going on @Thiefery ?

@Thiefery

I know it's a long way to December, but seeing you guys at 21 right now on 247 is kind of surprising to me. I am confident you will get more - you are at 13 right now - so you will obviously get that many again.

But here is what is going to be interesting for you and OU fans and something SEC folks have had to deal with for years ... you can't get pumped to be in the top 10 when that means you will be 6th or 7th in the SEC against teams you will play each and every year. This was a Richt thing ... he was in the top 10 every year and I can remember being excited about that until you realized that you were behind UA, AU, LSU, UF and others.

That's a major difference between being the SEC and the B12. You guys were going to be one of the top 2 in the B12 every year. It's tough to do that in the SEC when you have to go up against UGA, UA, LSU, etc.

You do know they only won two conference championship the past 15 years with those top 2 classes don't you?

Two top 100 players within an hour…pretty good day. About a month ago Michigans class was outside the top 50, currently sitting at 11.

I am aware. Which makes it even more interesting when they won't have the most talented team.

yeah i'm not worried, think Steve needs to shake up his support staff after this season, but he, as usual, will close strong.

With the portal being such a key.. The roster will still be ready for conference play now and in the future. DL (notably DT) recruiting needs to pick up.. but this was a risk when Sark hired a position coach from the NFL who's only CFB experience was at Western KY.

rest of the roster is solid..

we also didn't have the best staff during that run.. Chuck with Watson for TWO seasons.. before hiring Sterlin Fn Gilbert in his final season here.. Tom sticking with Beck even after having to take over play call duties.. Holding onto Todd Orlando a season too long..

Not saying we are going to run through the conference but they will hold their own..

That's the point. Finishing top 10 doesn't cut it when you will have to play against 6 or 7 teams that finished better. And, as I have said a ton of times, the next team to win because of transfers and NIL will be the first.

You want to win natties the formula is this:

1. Consistent top 3 HS recruiting. Top 10 won't get it, IMO.

2. Supplement your team with transfer hole fillers - it's easier to find a very specific half dozen than to find a dozen that you really need.

3. Or, a generational QB, or being able to talk a lot of older players to come back (UM and Clemson).

you say that.. but it's an expanded playoff coming up.. Michigan was a borderline top 10 school recruiting wise.. yet they went on a run the past few seasons.. upsetting a top 3 avg recruiting tosu..

we'll see how it plays out

You are citing the exception, as I pointed out. They had the ability to put together a great senior laden class, much like Clemson did in 2018. That's not been the rule. What I typed has been the rule to win NCs.

The expanded playoff makes it easier to get in, not win it.

I am not giving you a hard time, but (1) June/July are the important months now, not December. And, (2) which top 100 players are you truly in on? There may be a ton ... I don't know. For example, I know we are in on a half dozen or more and expect to land 3 or 4 more. Do you have that to rely on?

No ... i'm saying for years UM got out recruited by tosu yet have won 3 years in a row or something.. reason why they have been to the CFP so much lately

I get it once you get in..it's something else.. but hell they also lost to TCU who didn't recruit like any of the other CFP teams that season. Upsets can still happen.. SEC will likely have at least 3 teams in the playoff...maybe 4?

I agree. I don't think you'll under perform as much as you did during that 10 year stretch. May not win a bunch of conference titles but you'll compete the majority of the time.
