I've posted this before and
@Thiefery kind of blew it off, but let's take a look at current rankings. I know things will change, but one of the differences being in the SEC instead of the B12 is that you could have a top 10 recruiting year and still be 7th or 8th in the conference you play in now. If that happens many years in a row, it adds up and you start losing games you wouldn't have lost in the B12.
Current rankings (national/SEC):
2 / 1 Bama
3 / 2 LSU
4 / 3 UGA
5 / 4 Auburn
6 / 5 UTjr
7/ 6 ATM
11 / 7 OU
13 / 8 TX
Current rankings (national/B12):
11 / 7 OU
13 / 8 TX
21 / 3 TCU
27 / 4 UCF
33 / 5 Baylor
39 /6 WVu
Obviously, TX and OU are in the SEC, but as in the past they were always 1 and 2 in the B12. So they were always playing rosters with less talent than them. Look at the SEC ... 6 teams ahead of them. It's not just having to play Bama and UGA ... if this keeps up, they will play 4-5 games per year where they don't have the best roster. You are going to lose several of those.
Again, its a long time until ESD/NSD, and I would expect TX to move up into the top 10. But my point, one I saw year in and year out when Richt was our coach, is that you better get up into the top 3 as often as you can if you want to have a talent edge in the SEC
