2025 Scheduling Updates

Yea having the expanded CFP is killing big OOC series

When you're gonna need to win 10 games to get into the CFP, it makes no sense to schedule an OOC game where there's a chance of losing.

That being said, I support the current CFP.

Yeah, but if your OOC is too shitty getting to 10 wins might not be enough, especially with the imbalanced schedules. I don't think there's any way IU gets in at 10-2 this past year.

Maybe for the Big 12, ACC, MWC, etc. However, Indiana says

Florida International
Western Illinois
Charlotte

Indiana had an extremely soft Big 10 schedule with their only tough game being @ Ohio St.

You can be sure if/when the SEC moves to 9 games in conference they'll be scheduling less prominent OOC matchups.

Yeah, and they barely made it at 11-1. That's why I'm saying, just beating shitty teams to get to 10-2 might not be enough.

If they expand the CFP to 16 teams, a 10 win Big 10 or SEC team will be locks.

If they expand, sure. But 10-2 in the 12 CFP isn't guaranteed. With that said, the B1G and SEC are gonna completely fuck this thing up.

But you can agree 10 wins at least gets one considered in the 12 team format.
i.e. Tennessee and Clemson.
Clemson only had 9 regular season wins.

It'll get you considered if you have good wins in a 12 team format. 10-2 with an IU schedule is getting left out rather comfortably IMO. Had IU been 10-2 my guess is they would have been ranked about 16th or so.

Miami, Iowa St, BYU, UNLV, and Memphis were the only 10 win teams left out of the CFP.

They all had something in common. They weren't Big 10 or SEC.

Just sayin'.

Do you think IU would have made it at 10-2? Those teams were left out because they didn't have good quality wins (outside of BYU beating SMU). None of them had good metrics either.

Been there done that.
It's just assumed the Big 10 and SEC "grinds" are enough.

With imbalanced schedules conference schedules are going to wildly fluctuate.

Things will change when the $EC stops playing Mercer in November and goes to 9 conf games like the B1G

I'd bet if Nebraska gets to 10 regular season wins this year, they'll get into the CFP.

They'll get the benefit from name alone.

Indiana would not have made it this year if they were 10-2. If that michigan game had gone sideways in the 4th quarter and they lost, they would've been outside looking in. They were the 10 seed at 11-1. Had they gone 10-2, with their best win being either 6-6 Nebraska or 6-6 Washington, they are definitely getting jumped by a few teams. They managed to only face two of the top seven teams in the B1G, and went 1-1 with a narrow win.

@Red_Alert you can spin this but it makes you look bad... will the replacement be a P4 team? G5? FCS 👀
