AL West Thread

Batted 8th again last night (with the 3rd highest OPS) and only got to the plate 3 times as a result, a 3-1 loss ended with Neto standing in the on-deck circle. I know what the argument/reason is to bat established vets like Drury higher (even if I don't agree) but why the hell do they need to make sure that guys like Calhoun and Moniak get more ABs? Buncha fucking morons.

You guys think that maybe Neto is a part of HammerDown nation and that he read my posts?

“I told him a couple of days ago, I said, ‘Hey man, I think I've earned batting up there,’” Neto said. “Not that I don’t like hitting down in the lineup. But I think I earned it to go up there and be productive for us and maybe have a couple extra more at-bats.”

He is on fucking fire right now! Just killed the Yankees this week.

Hitting .304/.415/.570 since the ASB, .285/.365/.531 since June 12th.

The thought that ran through my head every time I read a profile of him last offseason was "He's definitely going to hit for more power than you guys think he will". It's still too early to say "I told you so!" but it's looking good so far :thumb:

wild. it's not like the Angels have anything to lose either.

Hiura also hit .232/.312/.401 in the Tigers system before joining the Angels (.360/.429/.853, but only 19 games and it's the PCL). it's not like Hiura has shown significant strides in cutting down on the K's either (28.1% in DET and 29.8% in PCL). he had a 41.7% K% in 2022.

So now that they ran out of excuses to keep Stefanic down in AAA apparently they're just going to prioritize a career minor leaguer who's about to turn 32 that Stefanic outhit in AAA by 200 points of OPS. Jack Lopez starts again tonight. I don't get it. I'm not saying that Michael Stefanic is the next Joe Morgan but there's a way better chance that he's a usable asset than there is with Jack freaking Lopez at this point. This seems so stupid to me.

it's wild, some guys just do nothing but hit in the minors and never get a real chance in the majors. At least the Sox gave Daniel Nava a chance after signing him out of indy ball and he had a respectable career.

With Hiura I could at least imagine what the argument was even if I didn't buy it. But I can't understand at all why they would be giving his ABs to Jack Lopez now! The dude is almost 32 and wasn't even hitting very well in AAA! It's fucking insanity man.

no one's accusing the Angels of being a well run franchise

@DragonFromTo I'm glad they're at least giving Niko Kavadas a shot. He isn't going to win any batting titles, but he's someone I could see being useful even while hitting in the low .200s. Fun to follow his progression through the minors

He'd better watch out, Elliot Soto is right over his shoulder

So I guess Julio is still good after all. No one hotter right now.

Why does Jack Lopez keep happening? Why? It's just fucking nuts man. There's no possible explanation.

Just playing out the string.

They are sitting Michael Stefanic to play him though and he has torn up the minor leagues while not being given a shot.

I said this above and it remains valid.

When I saw that Stefanic was starting tonight I knew that Neto had to be sitting because there's no way that Jack Lopez's ass would ever touch the bench. Sure enough...
