"baseball is so much better now"

Power hitters hit HRs off fastballs and strike out on off-speed pitches.

I could touch 80 in high school. Threw 10 pitches a few months ago and topped out at 68 and my shoulder was sore for a few days

I went to a simulator a couple years ago and topped out at 65. I couldn't brush my teeth with my right hand for a week.

I was a "promising" pitcher in high school until a shoulder injury playing football. Still played rec slow-pitcher softball into my early 40s. I could only throw hard for 5 or 6 pitches for nearly 20 years from HS until I popped something in my shoulder during a softball tournament. My got live again. Hit 85 at County Stadium when they still had a speed gun set up outside. Hit 85 "once". My live are lasted about 5 years. Now I can't throw overhand but I can throw a mean frisbee.

It's crazy to think of the strain we put on our bodies in youth.

I was a 160 pound halfback. Team captain, all region, never missed a game. I'd take one snap now and throw my hip out of socket.

Yeah, I always was sore as hell with a dull ache every time I threw BP. I could touch 80 too but my shit was flat as a pancake. I remember actually getting a little wiggle in my two-seam a time or two and that was super exciting. Most people who didn't at least play HS baseball have absolutely zero concept of the skill level of MLB pitchers and what they can do under intense pressure. They're machines.
I never pitched in a game. I was always first, third or a corner outfield spot. Like you, had absolutely no action on any pitch. If I started early and put some real effort in, I might could have made a decent HS pitcher, but I never really wanted to

I was just this week talking to some guys I went to high school with. We all agreed we're rather be old as dirt than have to do two-a-days football practice in this damn heat.

I’d literally die right now. Hell, I almost died back then!

My senior year one of our assistant coaches suited up every day and filled in all over the field during practice. Dude was in his 40's, ran to/from the school every day and ran fucking circles around us young punks.

I think I'm in good enough shape right now to do the same thing. I'd like to see some of these little fuckers do a double F45 class with me.

68? maybe with my curve.
I could beat up, out drink, out work and out fuck my 19 year old self, but my 19 year old self could definitely throw harder than my current 32 year old self

meh, at the time you were throwing every single day. Recently I threw around with my brother when I was out in CA. I didn't have what I had before, but it was the first I'd thrown in years. Give me a few weeks and I'd be matching my HS numbers... or my arm would fall off. Nothing in between.

Current era of baseball much better. Pitchers are utilized s a way that prolongs their careers. Players from the 90's era would have difficult time in todays game.
