The progression is not as fast/great as you seem to be implying though. If it was no player would be able to have a long and successful 15 year career as the game would almost certainly "pass them by" earlier than that as they aged.

Eh, I was talking more about prior to 1980, I liked the NFL most in the 80's and 90's but the athleticism in today's game is just remarkable. The game is full of world class sprinters who are also world class body builders who happen to play football.
