Big 12 thread

And yes, marshal is our rival. It’s really not hard to understand.
Marshall is not WVU’s rival.
Pitt? Yes
VT? Yes
Syracuse? Yes
Maryland? Yes

Marshall? No, that short series was dominated by WVU and most people in state root for both. Dynamics are different in state for WV.

If ANY of those other programs would offer a permanent home and home with WVU, WVU would crawl on their belly over broken glass to sign it because those are all legit rivals for WVU but they won’t do it with Marshall and could at any time because.. it’s not a rivalry, just an event from time to time and this is from someone who’d like to see that happen, it would be good for the state IMO.

similar to how WVU and Maryland wants to call Penn State their rival, Penn State folks laugh at that notion.

Let me get this straight, LSU “because it’s a border state” is going to be a rival yet Baylor and TCU both who are almost 100 miles from Austin wouldn’t because reasons?????

You’ve played A&M thanksgiving and I’m sure they gave tickets away for that too, is that not a rival?

Thank you for indirectly admitting tech is a rival. That was getting funny considering that rivalry has a trophy.
Baylor is a little less than 100 to Austin. TCU is closer to 200.

IIRC, the Cotton Bowl which is about 40 miles due east of TCU is approximately 195-200 miles to both OU and Texas..which is why the RRSO is there.

And if we are going by geography, I'm pretty sure Tech is closer to OU than UT. I'd have to look it up to be sure.

Yeah Texas is such weird State with their geography. Norman is slightly closer to the Cotton Bowl than Austin. Also I think El Paso is closer to Los Angles than it is to Houston.

Texarkana is closer to Chicago than it is to El Paso. Texas is a big ass state.

It is. Texarkana is closer to Chicago than El Paso. And Phoenix and Abilene are about the same distance to El Paso. Amarillo is closer to three other state capitals than it is Austin.

Yes LSU as a border state will be a bigger "rival" than TCU or Baylor.. lol Guess you think SMU is also another rival UT is missing out on

and care to wager that they don't have to give away tix for an aggy game? They had to for Baylor, Tech, KSU, and TCU that same weekend.

Lore about a truck driver crossing the state on I-10/20 one winter. "The sun has riz, the sun has set, and here I is in Texas yet."

And it can drive some people absolutely crazy when driving through it. Even East and Central Texans. Especially the wide open spaces. Not so much folks from the Four Corners states. They are used to 120 mile stretches of nothing...and making sure you have a full tank when you need to. But others really struggle. The only way to deal with it is to just get in the car (or pickup in the case of West Texans) and go. And many of us West Texans ain't too bright. We'll have a dual cab, 4x4 3/4 or one ton pick up and absolutely no reason for one. Ain't hauling nothing around and don't need it for work. But momma and the kids drive it 90 miles to the nearest mall and have lunch at Olive Garden!

you never know when that 4X4 will be needed so it's a good buy.

When I was in college I bought a Pontiac hearse to rip around in. It was great. My buddies could pile in and we'd go to the Riverside Drive-In where it was $3/car to get in to see a movie. They would have to get out so I could pull up on the berm and then they'd get back in if the weather was bad. When they got back in, it would sit on the ground because the shocks were shot. The owner of the place was cool because we bought a ton of stuff at the concession stand. But yeah, there were a few occasions when a girl would refuse to get in it because the casket holders were still there and I never took down the black curtains on the windows. Another thing they didn't like was getting into something I had named "Ghoul".

Calling Marshall not a rival to WVU is like saying Pitt isn’t a rival to Penn state. It’s absurd and ridiculously wrong.

So we are under some assumption all of Texas’ rivals save Ou are in the SEC, lol ok

You cited LSU would be a rival because of its close proximity to Texas yet dont want to say TCU and Baylor are and now ignore tech. lolol

Maybe not the first few years but Id bet they had to in the past and will to in the future, especially if Texas continues with its underachievement.

But travel will definitely be easier to Kentucky, South Carolina, Florida and Missouri compared to now according to @Thiefery

it's the flagship school of a border state.. comparing that to private schools? Yeah...

better than flying into Pittsburgh then renting a bus to drive to Morgantown..

BTW don't forget Pitt and PSU fiercest rivals Temple and Villanova!!!

You cited because it’s a border state making it about proximity yet ignoring the two I mentioned proximity.
