Big 12 thread

better than flying into Pittsburgh then renting a bus to drive to Morgantown..

Aww having to go to extremes to see how ridiculous your statement was, well done.

BTW don't forget Pitt and PSU fiercest rivals Temple and Villanova!!!

You’ll have schedule full of regional “rivals” now with your bouts in Missouri, Tennessee, Kentucky and South Carolina lololol

Plus “easier” travel too! lololol

Yes because every single one of those places you’d flying right into the campus and not have to drive far…#allsasnobrains

lol your biggest rival is from a border state lol

And? We don’t have another P5 in state or it’d be idiotic to think they wouldn’t be. But this conversation has already turned to that at this point.

You didn’t debate it because you couldn’t, it’s not shocking.
i'm not going down this road with you.. u win. Texas in the SEC will be a terrible fit.. so much so that the SEC will waive the exit fee and UT will return to the Big12 and become everyone's rival once again :)

“ I’m not going into this with you, but but but let me say something absurd that was never said to try and one up”…..

That post is the perfect example of what this latest conversation between us was, you being absurd.

yes LSU would be a better "rival" since it's a border state.. I think you are the only one who keeps thinking TCU and Baylor are some sort of real rival to UT. We've played both thanksgiving day and they were giving away tix to try and fill up the place.. what a rival

If the large bold is true, then yeah that's not a rivalry.

I looked up Baylor and had to go back to 1994 to find the game vs Texas on Thanksgiving.
That was a year TX vs TX A&M was played on Nov 5th for some reason.

I could see a lack of interest if it were the 1, 2, or 3 win Baylor teams like many are accustomed to seeing, but Baylor was (7-3) going into that game and Texas was (6-4). In other words a winnable game for Baylor who'd actually beaten Texas in 1991 and 1992.

I didn't look any further, but what year was TX/TCU on Thanksgiving? Did it appear to be competitive going in?

Yeah Texas is such weird State with their geography. Norman is slightly closer to the Cotton Bowl than Austin. Also I think El Paso is closer to Los Angles than it is to Houston.

Texarkana is closer to Chicago than it is to El Paso. Texas is a big ass state.

Family vacations on I-10 across Texas.

Heading west: "JFC are we to New Mexico yet?"
Heading east: "JFC are we to fucking Louisiana yet?"

Never on thanksgiving day.. it's been that thanksgiving weekend or black friday. TCU played UT (2016, 2014), Tech has played us that weekend a few times too (2019, 2017, 2015, 2014)

I was surprised that we hadn't played Baylor that weekend, usually it's a week after or before.. guess they didn't think they were "rivals" despite being less than a two hour drive for them to come to Austin.. But we have played Kansas that weekend, maybe they too are now rivals.

My point is, even with schools like Baylor/TCU being a short drive to Austin, they really aren't rivals. Like Texas can suck, aggy can suck but they always sold out or damn near sold out every thanksgiving game.

I'm a little harsh on Tech, because for the most part they travel well but they aren't aggy. Tom's first year here we lost to Tech at home in the season finale, and the stadium at best was close to 3/4 full, and that was them giving out free tix to students that stayed behind for thanksgiving.

One of the guys that I went to the Piggy trip in September lives in FtWorth. Whenever UT plays there he goes, he said that the stadium atmosphere is nothing like what we experienced in Fayetteville.. and he was there during the Boykin era.

So to me just cause you live close to a school and the other school views you as a "rival" doesn't mean it's a real rivalry game. ou, pig and aggy.. that's the list.. and they all will be together in the SEC is the near future, so it's already a great fit for my Horns.
