Big 12 thread

Look, I wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire...but you're taking game-week year round. You gotta pick your shots kid. Don't shoot that wad so early and often. Prescience and timing are your friend. Go now, be well.

LOL it's 2020 who the hell knows if we even have a game this week..

Aw shit. Who wants to plan a flight, book a room, buy some tickets and get all fired up for a game that might not happen? We have already had this discussion with some friends about the Texas game. The locals don't like it either, especially the people who have a long drive or who have a business in Norman that is depending on fans doing some buying. Gimme five if you hate 2020 too.

OU football: Kansas State 'really close' to not meeting roster minimum for Big 12 opener vs. Sooners

Oklahoma opens Big 12 play with Kansas State on Saturday — or at least, that’s what the No. 3 Sooners have planned.

Kansas State coach Chris Klieman said the Wildcats (0-1) were 18 hours away from kicking off against Arkansas State on Sept. 12 when it officially learned it had enough players to proceed with the nonconference tilt — the Big 12 requires teams to have at least 53 players and a minimum of one quarterback, four interior defensive linemen and seven offensive linemen among them.

It was a stressful Friday for Klieman, a day before the team’s 2020 season opener that the Wildcats lost 35-31, as he awaited COVID test and contact tracing results.

Klieman expects this week to be the same.

“On the Arkansas State game, it was Friday at 5 o'clock where we finally got the go-ahead to play, because we were one player at one position away from having to cancel that game,” Klieman said during a Tuesday news conference. “... and this week, it's another position that we're really close on the threshold.”

If the game is canceled, OU and Kansas State share a bye week on Oct. 17, making a reschedule fairly easy on both sides.

It will undoubtedly become trickier to make games up as OU gets into its conference slate where it will play go from three consecutive games to a bye week, another three consecutive games before a second bye week and then a third set of three consecutive games to close the season.

“Interested to see how that goes, not just for us, but for the rest of the conference,” OU coach Lincoln Riley said, “It was good to have a bye week when we did, glad that we had that scheduled when we did. Happy that we were able to play. … You obviously just don’t have that cushion now that you’ve had with three straight important games coming up.

"We obviously have to continue to handle it better. Understand that a guy makes a mistake or gets popped for contact tracing now, it’s not going to be one game, it’s likely to be multiple games.”

This is one of the reasons why i wanted the Big 12 to begin conference play earlier, on Labor Day weekend. It would have given the conference an additional bye week to make games up. But this is also on the conference from the late spring/early summer when it, as usual, took it's sweet time to announce when Fall camp would begin. They also waited till Lincoln spoke up about the no Zoom coaching being a clear disadvantage for the conference since the other P5 schools were doing them.

It's going to be like this every week, knocking on wood, I hope UT continues to have the luck it's had thus far with testing.

Yeah I agree with you. There was zero reason every conference that was playing couldn’t have started the last weekend of August to space shit out. it is getting harder and harder to see this season play out.

Nobody wants to take the L.

We get it.

I think coaches saw what their teams looked like without spring and a full fall camp and have now become much more concerned about the spread of Covid

Its still Oklahoma and the 9 dwarfs until proven otherwise.

OU drops one to KSU. OU's youth on offense is apparent. No excuse for the shitty D.
ISU slips past TCU. Both KSU and ISU recover after poor showings in week1.
UT looks like they will take TT.
OSU looks like they have WV under control.
KU is KU, so...
Will BU even play this year?

LOL at the Baylor comment.

Kansas State and Iowa State are in first place in the Big Xii.
Bring on Farmageddon.
Let's Go Cyclones!

Will be a 4 way tie for 1st and 4 way tie for 2nd in a couple hours. No telling what this Covid fucked season will deliver.

Actually, at the end of the day, the 5 losers (don't forget the KU @ Baylor Game) will be tied for 6th. They will all be only one game back, but 5 teams ahead of them in the standings.

I would like to see how Kansas State performs throughout the season. I am under the hunch that the Arkansas State loss was a fluke.

You like stats? Here are some for you:

The Sooners have not scored a fourth-quarter touchdown at home against a Big 12 opponent in more than a year. The last one was Sept. 28 last year against Texas Tech. Since then, OU has been outscored 34-0 by TCU, Iowa State and Kansas State at home in the 4th quarter. Yes, at home.

Stoops only lost at home like 7 times in 20 years so that is a tough stat for sure.

just saw that Tech only had one hold in the entire game vs UT this past saturday.. Big 12 refs are always the wild X Factor..smh

I'm beginning to get more confident on my ou beats isu BADLY saturday night pick (although I'm still pulling for the cyclones). Everyone bashing ou really bad now.. even superfan troll RJ Young is piling on. I'm thinking 48-13

Not sure OUs defense can hold Waxahachie High to 13 points.
