Well, an 8-3 non con is better than I coulda ever hoped(yes UCLA will be a loss).
Still can’t shoot for shit but whatever. Would be nice if Kolek found his shot and stopped shooting like Derrick Wilson. His play making is incredible tho.
One downside is this year is more about the future and sadly Lewis might not be part of it. Guy might play himself into being drafted(even tho I think he needs at least 1 more year.)
On the bubble is so relative.I think Shaka does better with under the radar hustle guys.
They might need to beat UCLA to get themselves on the bubble tho.
its possible that his run at VCU was a flukeI think Shaka does better with under the radar hustle guys.

VCU had success before Smart and they have had success since he's been gone.

Go 10-10 in BE play and I’ll take our chances.
i don’t expect that tho. Our current 6 game gauntlet is insane. Just beating Kstate is a victory.
Shaka is perfect here though. All I care about is having a team that once again people hate to play and the players like to player here.
Also, not bad having a Nova white boy at guard that everyone hates……hopefully ours learns to shoot
Worth mentioning that VCU's run started with Jeff Capel. The same Jeff Capel that flopped at Oklahoma and is currently flopping at Pitt. His replacement at VCU, Anthony Grant, kept the ball rollin' at VCU and then flopped at Alabama. That can be said of many coaches since the same coaches tend to get recycled, but ya, it may be true, we'll see.

It's a definite possibility.
My general point is that meh coaches have fluke runs all the time and Smart accomplished what he did at an established mid-major program. He didn't have to rebuild VCU. VCU being able to sustain their success over five different coaching staffs is something you have to consider when evaluating Capel, Grant, Smart, Wade and Rhoades.I do think Shaka's tenure at VCU was alot better than Capel or Grant though. Even if you take away the FF.
2013 - #5 seed
2014 - #5 seed
2015 - #7 seed
They would have made the tournament as an at large in 4/5 years there with them making it in 2011 and getting to the FF. Grant was 11 seed, NIT, 11 seed. Both times getting in via the auto bid. I'm not sure they make either if they don't win the CAAT. And Capel's only tournament team was the one that went up against WF in 04. They aren't getting in without the auto bid.
Smart had them going as a top 25 program his last 3 years there. Grant had them top 50, Capel top 75ish. They've been a really consistent program, but Smart had them operating at their highest. With that said, he failed in a big way at Texas.

I was 21 the last time Shaka Smart won an NCAAT game. I turned 30 a month ago. During that time period, he spent six years at Texas. He had one top 25 team there. Unlimited resources and he couldn't get the job done. I'm getting to the point where Smart is probably nothing more than an average coach.

Bad OOC showing.
The fact that Nova is still up in the metrics shows the bias of those.
BE as a whole did well, would have helped if Nova carried some weight.
14 Q1 wins is pretty good considering only 11 teams.
