Big East Basketball

Waxed ND to finish the non con 8-3.

We had a chance in all 3 losses and the Wisconsin game especially was tough. Since I do think we are the bettr team.

But overall if you told me wed go 8-3 I woulda taken it. Good to get a road win too. Also the fact that our 3 losses were all close games while our wins against the high majors were blowouts will hopefully bode well for both NET and the team being able win enough BE games.

Creighton friday will be tough test immediately.

Also very needed win for SHU last night even if it was an abomination of offensive basketball. League needed to get the road Ws yesterday.

As BE play begins I think only 4 teams(Uconn, Creighton, MU and Xavier) can afford to go 10-10 in league play and still get a bid......and outside of Uconn Id strongly advise none of those 3 risk it

At this point I think it would be best for the league if Gtown, Depaul, Providence do little to no winning. Just let the teams pile up wins. Unfortunately I dont think thatll be the case adn the league is gonna cannibalize themselves even more

He’s living off his reputation as a player there, nothing else. It’s awful to see Georgetown this down.

Nevermind. Creighton is fucked if they want a bid and .500 league record

I think Nova finishes top 3 now that Whitmore is back and looking like a stud. They will need a lot of wins to dance tho. Which I think they will get.

Kalkbrenner was out and he matters big time.

But that game there was never a doubt who the better team was. Even when MU was down 22-16.

Absolute abuse. If we made layups this is a 30 point laugher.

Shaka gotta stop being nice and playing the walkons in games. Every blowout has lost 6 pts doing that.

I'm interested to see how it breaks out.

I think either UConn runs away with it, or its just a free for all.

McDermott can recruit but he's a shit defensive coach.

Losing Hawkins from last year also hurt a lot.

Yup him leaving was a major reason why I thought Creighton was overrated preseason.

Returning a lot for a bubble team while also losing your best defender/shooter isnt usually grounds for top 10.

We scored 1 pt in 6 minutes so MU deserves a lot of flack for another terrible down the stretch performance(in a game where we had an elite offensive game plan). Cant just blow teams out. Losing every game thats close late is on strategy and the players being mentally tough enough.

Having said that, the officiaiting in the last 10 minutes was a black eye on the sport and should be immediately investigated. It makes the calls in the Vikings/Colts game look legitamate.

MU was 13/16 to start in the second half and couldnt be stopped. Cooley got in the refs ear(fouls were 6-6 at this time anyways). And from that point on providence went to the line i think 12 times. While being called for ONE foul. ONE. If theres video of the Kam Jones "foul" rather than jump ball. People will wonder why they werent stoned to death on the spot.

Oh yeah, and still yet to ever start 2-0 in this version of the BE. So shoulda known a L was coming.

49-19 free throws is absolutely sickening and someone has to lose their job.

Team has to be better 100% in close games this was a gag job. But heck of a battle somehow forcing OT two. While providence scored everything at the line.

Continue our trend of Blow out wins or close losses.

Today was a blow out win.

Shaka is coaching his ass off with this team, his decision to put Omax back in with 2 fouls in first half and 7 min left knowing how dead we were shifted it.

That said, his late game coaching is HORRENDOUS and hes gotta fix it. Even when this team cant shoot a lick. We run an offensive clinic for majory of games with all the atheletic options. But late in games we stop running and slow it down and we suck. Every close game ends up a loss and every blow out comes down by 8 pts because we put in the bench and stop playing. NET matters with this shit league. Stop it.

Good win though. Oso and Kam are special. Kolek and Omax do their things so well. ON to revamped Nova. Unlikely W.

Really interesting stat according to hoop explorer. Marquettes starting lineup Kolek/Mitchell/Jones/Omax/Oso is the #1 lineup in the country of any grouping that has played at least 250 possessions together. Only behind Purdues and Zonas if you drop to a small 150 possession sample.

The key going forward to stay successful is how to best maximize that group. How to work in the 4 reserves who get mintues and hopefully come March even trimming that a bit. Staying out of foul trouble is huge to that.

Lack of size will always get punished a bit and give up rebounds. But keeping that unit together as much as possible is the goal to peak for once.

I think the key is to avoid bad losses which I'd say no Marquette team in the new BE has been able to do.

The league is down this year, so the door is open.

Yeah unforunately with the down league, its tougher to avoid a bad loss cause lots of teams of bad metrics. Really have to avoid our annual DePaul loss.

But the lineup is there to smash these teams. Just cant have the late game slow it down meltdowns.

Another key is Shaka needs to make Chase Ross the 6th man. When we do have to go to our bench every best lineup combo features him efficiency wise. Joplins D is too poor to be the main bench guy.
