Big East Basketball

Also, what in the fuck is this? I mean Illinois isn't some like universally loved program. But what a bizarre comment about a team that's never been a rival or Prov or Gtown.

Cooley been nosediving for years as a bit of a fraud. And this was just weird, unless I'm missing something

Well, Pitino should be fired I guess

Georgia may win some games, but the SEC is tough.

St Johns blows another game after fouling out the other team's best player and best shooter.

That's why you have Pitino, to win these close games. I see the Johns as a middle of the pack BE team.

Not sure how UGA will do in the SEC because it's pretty loaded, but they should finish Non Con 12-1. 8-10 is probably enough to get them on the right side of the bubble. The UGA win has a good shot at being a Q1 win for Marquette.

After UConn and Marquette, nobody has really positioned themselves to be next in line. Even though they've lost to Baylor and UGA, I'd still peg them to finish 3rd. It's tough to trust Creighton (losing to Neb and the Ashworth injury), Xavier or Providence/DePaul even though they are undefeated.

SJU a tough team to judge, they've got all the pieces and they play hard. I don't love that Creighton team at all.

It's hard to go game to game at this point, even Nova looks good today.

That's definitely true. I've seen every BE team play but UConn and DePaul, and I'd say after UConn and Marquette, SJU to me, probably has the highest ceiling. But they can be erratic at times too. If they would have shot better from 3, they would have won this game fairly easy.

The issue with St Johns is the same as a team like Maryland just at a different position.

Having Richmond and Smith playing 30+ minutes makes a poor shooter have to play off the ball at all times. And its mostly Richmond whose skill set requires being ball dominant. His shot has never been good. But my god is it hideous now. Watching him shoot free throws Id guess he'd never played basketball before.

I do still really like this St Johns team. I just think they have a ton of peak and valley in that roster though. Like when we play them I would not be surprised to lose by 20 at the garden. And I also wouldn't be surprised in the slightest to win the game rather comfortably

Pretty much my assessment too. Even if these Bahama games, each game has been a microcosm of what their season could potentially be. Play great to go up by almost 20 against Baylor, but play bad enough to lose that lead. I could see something like them beating UConn at the Garden, but losing to DePaul or some shit on a random Wednesday night.

It's going to be up and down for them in conference, so they needed one of those games.

I thought they should have had them both. Baylor one was a little bit of bad luck, but they should have won the GA game.

One man offense and no defense...

League keeps taking hits

Uconn overall will be fine. But this is definitely not close to as good of a backcourt as their dominant championship squads. Not the same type of skill and athleticism.

Yea, not a 3 peat squad but solid.

Big East has lost every close game.

Mahaney just isn't a lead guard. That's gonna be the biggest issue. And Diarra is still just a true veteran defender and solid contributer.

Ball gonna have to really peak for that backcourt. Karaban/McNeely/Reed is deadly though

hilarious that Hurley being an overemotional lesbian finally cost his team

South Carolina is fading early

But BE needed that win anyways

In fairness that was a horrible call.

That was like calling Patrick Ewing coming over the back of Muggsy Bogues.

Something I am curious to see if it continues as a bizarre anomaly for a players shooting. Is Ben Golds crazy shooting splits for his career. Vs Kenpom A/B games compared to games essentially against shitty teams.

  • 2024-25 Tier A&B: 44.4%
  • 2024-25 undesignated: 19.0%
  • 2023-24 Tier A&B: 41.4%
  • 2023-24 undesignated: 27.7%
  • 2022-23 Tier A&B: 36.4%
  • 2022-23 Undesignated: 25.0%
  • Career Tier A&B: 40.9%
  • Career Undesignated: 23.1%
Something to monitor as this year goes on and as we play two more shitty teams this week. I hope its a real trend cause schedule gets very A/B centric next week.

But to this point in his career he's basically Sniper from deep the better the opponents are.

Creighton is in big trouble

Yeah, they need to get a lot better. SDSU and Nebraska are probably fringe tournament teams this year (might be giving Nebraska too much credit), so getting blown out by both isn't great.
