Big East Basketball

Kalkbrenner plays like Yao Ming against Villanova and everybody else he plays like he's 5'6".

I also feel like(without looking) you all get scorched earth Creighton from 3 a lot.

That was the difference in this one, they picked one of their games where all their 3s went in

I am pretty certain that Georgetown while definitely improved and trending in the right direction, is mostly a product of a soft schedule.

But we will find out for certain in the very immediate future.

vs X, at MU, vs Uconn, at SJU. Find a way to go 2-2 in that stretch and they are very much in the bubble talks going forward.

BE is setting up to be pretty weird this season. You have a pretty clear top 3 that have separated from the rest (as far as metrics) than 4-10 are basically interchangeable, then there's Seton Hall who is terrible. Out of the 4 through 10 group, Butler has the best wins, but man they are inconsistent. If I were to power rank, I'd probably give Nova the best chance at getting 4th, but they've done a lot of damage to themselves in Non Con. If the top 3 run away and hide, it could be just a 3 bid league (though I think St John's will get picked up off some).

I'm really fascinated to see which team in that cluster of 4-10 separates from the pack. It could be Gtown, but for them to be in serious contention for an at large I think they have to get to 22 wins heading into the BE tournament. 10 Q3/Q4 wins with a Q3 loss in OOC play means they have a lot of ground to make up.

Well, that was evisceration

Honestly only downside to that was we blasted them by so much the first half, we kinda reverse stat padded in the 2nd

Obviously even more March success is what matters most

But a fun part of the regular season is continuing to achieve new things to differentiate from past years. No matter how small

This year we got the Bucky(as sad as that is) and at Prov monkeys off our backs. First 2-0(now 3-0) BE start as well.

This team overall easily has the highest upside of the Shaka era. But the potential to face plant is there because of focus and most everyone being young in their "roles"

You saw last year what happens in poor shooting games on a team with ball movement(Butler and Nc State). Issue is this year naturally is not going to shoot it as well. Point Kam unfortunately hurts his shooting alone.

First half vs Creighton. We missed about 15 wide open looks. Then compounded that with lack of focus shot selection and sloppy play because of it. Got down 35-27. Ended half 12-0. Ultimately it was a 26-3 run. Shaka didn't stupidly sub Stevie for too long who was a menace.

Creighton was gassed. We just wore them down before half was even over. But we let that lull us into taking 3s cause we were open.

Have to clean it up or someone is gonna catch us in a key game. But the bright side is we can do the kill shot runs at any time. Will never be the team who wears down. And anyone who watched that game saw we were vastly better just playing bad/stupid for 30 minutes of it.

I'm not sure I agree with that, but ... they're setting up well to win a lot of games in the Big East.

I think the Big East kind of sucking this year does them no justice in terms of warming up for March.

On paper, the 2 or 3 losses we were talking about might be realistic.

DePaul is awful again, Holtmann is just a warm body that goes as the program goes

Its definitely the highest upside. Way better and more versatile defensively. But as a group they gotta reign it in at times cant let missing open shots get compounded into something more.

Would also really like Ross to get more of an attacking game. Mitchell is smaller and much less the athlete and can find the paint at will.

BE playing the long game.

Get Nova into the tourney, Neptune stays

Need to beat UConn and Marquette in Philly to have a chance I'd say

Yup most likely but I think they definitely have gotten themselves fully into the convo. Todays boat racing will be very big for metrics. Their NET will probably move towards 50

SJU vs Butler was not a game thats gonna change the BE perception. Woooooooof.

For this years team. I changed my tune after seeing everything in full. Really just missing 1 true ball handler to take 10 min of pressure of Kam. So I started to want to see him back.

But with his brutal knee injury. This is the best call. For him and program getting 2 more years

Also based off shakas press conferences the last month or so. It sounds like Sean has had a chance to return any game for a few weeks and it’s mostly been him not confident in it.

If that’s the case absolutely the right call. Don’t want a guy on a bum knee trying to work his way back into game form while also not even feeling good about moving on the knee.

1. Georgetown is a legit tournament team

2. Embarrassing effort. This game is infinitely worse than NC State or last year Butler. At least those games we mostly just shot like shit. We legit look like we have downs tonight. Walking.

Stevie is having a bad Achilles night, sadly don't think he will ever get those fully healthy. Only one with an excuse tho

At least found our run.

The Chase Ross game.

That may be pushing it, but they may be turning the corner as a program.

I believe Coooley is the kind of guy who can work the current system, so I expect to see them there soon.

Their only true weakness is turning the ball over.

The D is legit. Offense has to improve but still has potential. And none of the guys they play look like they don’t belong(where as Creighton plays 4 on 5 at all times almost).

Of course you can argue it was MU tuesday sleepwalking. Befuddled by a zone. And once half time hit for adjustments, it was over and Gtown was -28 in the 30ish minutes outside their 23-3 blitz.

But I was impressed. Even if we looked disinterested for a half.

Big win. Keeps the season alive...

Wild ending. Uconn had the ball for about 5 minutes straight in like 40 seconds of game time. Karaban chokes.

Nova very much still alive for a bid
