Big Ten Basketball

The Iowa fans were just as cocky on Rivals.

Act like you've been there guys. Oh wait.....
How am I being cocky? I haven't talked up Iowa once. I've only pointed out how dogshit Marquette is.

Nothing really reflective on you more an observation from then and to now. The amount of convos that ventured down Iowa, Purdue and Indiana territory (granted Indiana at least has historical pedigree) was pretty funny all the while the OSU, Sparty, and Wisky fans tended to be more quiet

Granted OSU hasn't won shit either for about half a decade.

I know what Iowa hoops is. Dickface thinks Marquette is CBB royalty. I've shown him multiple all time CBB rankings that have Iowa and Marquette virtually the same. Both middle of the road programs, but one is trending higher than the other.

We were on a Twins thread, and he was attacking my Twins opinion on "what would a hawkeye fan know anyway"

MN has 2 NCAA tournament wins in the last 25 years

Iowa is trending higher...for this season. Once Garza, Wieskamp(assuming he goes pro) and Bohannan leave Iowa is back to what they've been mostly under Fran IMO, barely making the tournament/barely missing it(with some exceptions on both missing/making)

All-time, Marquette is better IMO. Iowa was the better program in the 80's/90's. Marquette has been much better this century. And they do have a title.

And yes the Gophers have been largely irrelevant for 2 decades now, I've readily admitted that for a while. And as irrelevant as we've been Iowa only has 2 more tournament wins this century.

Agreed on most of this. My only point being that most all time rankings has Iowa and Marquette in the 26-28 range. But Hockey at the time was boasting like they are fucking Kentucky, Duke, UNC.

Yeah, but the program you like, while having a great year, is historically worse than the program your dogging and have been for the last 2 decades.

I'd just enjoy this season because it's the best season Iowa is having in probably 30+ years.

I don't have anything against either program. Iowa is fun as shit to watch under Fran(especially this year and last). I think the Iowa/MN is more a rivalry because football, and I don't give a shit about Gophers football. I was pissed that Garcia picked Marquette over MN, so if I should be pissed at someone it should be them. Lol. And I think this season is going probably about how it was going to go for Marquette. Bubble team, and it could go either way. Looking like it's trending towards NIT.

I don't have anything against Marquette either. It was the Marquette/Gopher fan that was discounting my Twins opinions, because I'm a Hawkeye fan.
My kid went to HS with Garcia. I had him pushing Iowa on him when he would see him in the halls. No luck

Wrong, I openly say when we suck.

And I also don't openly bring up Marquette in a BIg10 thread. Or Iowa in a Big East thread. Because 1. I don't think either program are royalty and 2. Iowa is truly irrelevant to me.

You are proving my point about what a "hawkeye fan would know though" lol.

The programs as a whole are really only comparable, If we allow ourselves to go back to the 1950s(as a Gopher football supporter I try not to live too far in the past).

Marquette was a true power house in the 70s. Iowa was really strong in the 80s. The teams were comparable in the 90s. But honestly not much of any of that matters now anyways. Since the turn of the century its been a blood bath.

Also, to say Iowa is "trending" higher is short sighted. Marquette has a dimwit for a coach that they should move on from and Iowa is currently more successful. But Marquette even with the inconsistencies under Wojo is not missing a beat recruiting wise. Thats because of the program.

You turn on NBA games and you will constantly hear announcers talk about the Marquette program and the players that have come from there. Shit, its become a running gag how the Miami Heat have some great culture and love their Marquette guys. Thats a program.

Wojo hasnt gotten the job done, no one gonna deny that. But there is a reason why guys like Garcia and Carton and Howard etc.. still choose the program. Clone any coach in America..it could be RIchard Pitino or John Calipari. Have them coach at both Iowa and Marquette. One school will vastly out recruit the other, and that school is not in Iowa.

Understood about your history with Hockey. I don't know of it, so can't comment on it. Especially since it's on Twins baseball, which I admittedly know very little about(other than them losing to the Yanks in the postseason all the time). Not meant as a dig or anything, I'm a Yanks fan, and that stat has always amazed me.

Getting back on topic, I do think historically Iowa and Marquette are similar. With Marquette being slightly ahead. Iowa could close that gap with a good run this tournament. Getting to a FF would be huge for them.

To be fair, I didn't know there was much history here as well haha.

One day the Twins will beat the Yanks in the playoffs, one day.

No I brought up a fan base, which you still keep proving my point....

Also my apologies to rmilia :beer2:
In what way does my thinking that you are the most negative/miserable Twins fan have anything to do with me being a Hawk fan?

That's fair. It was a couple of years ago. I was pretty deep into the beer having fun. I do think you are negative as fuck though when it comes to the Twins

Is the Gopher/Hawkeye rivalry really a hardcore one? I don't get that sense from the basketball side of things. If I'm ranking teams I dislike in the B1G the most it starts with Wisconsin obviously, then IU after that. Then probably MSU because they own our ass. I did find Iowa annoying a couple years back because of that dude who kept poking people in the eye though. Lol.

Nah I don't think it is. Its more so a football rivalry with the jug but Iowa wins like every single year so not sure that amounts to much. Basketball I think would take some consistent momentum from both programs. They have played some pretty fun games at times though.

Iowa hoops under Fran have kinda annoyed me though with him being such a Bo Ryan style lunatic. That mixed with their propensity to find an endless supply of white guys has kinda made them a knock off version of Wisco to me. That and they even share the Bohannon family tree haha.

Negative, but ultimately spot on with the Twins. When the same thing happens year after year(like the exact same thing) its simply just being honest. I am just more blunt about it.

But that right there should prove I am not some homer. I'll flat out say when I think Marquette sucks. I would treat them as some blueblood(post the 70s).
