Big Ten Basketball

People tend to look at weaknesses and not strengths. As mediocre as Iowas D is their offense is still the best in the country ( including Gonzaga). Any team that is the best in the country on one of the 2 facets of the game has a chance to win 3 or 4 games in the tourney and I can promise you there are a lot if teams in that second group Baylor or Gonzaga would rather play than Iowa because Iowa is one of the only teams in the country capable of having that one great offensive game and beating them

If a team has any weaknesses they will be exposed in the tourney. Same shit different year

For sure but same for strengths. Obviously if a tean is great in one aspect but middling in another they will get taken advantage of where they struggle. Doesnt mean they lose though. A team like Iowa could give up 90 plus and still win . Just like average O teams could svore 57 and still win . Depends on how well they do what they're good at

There's alot of randomness with the tournament. Alot of times the best team entering the tournament doesn't even win it. Baylor and Gonzaga have no weaknesses this year, if they lose it doesn't necessarily mean they were exposed or anything, shit just happens in a single elimination format. Those are two of the best, like, 5 teams this century according to the metrics. Hell the only team that has finished #1 in offensive and defensive efficiency in the KenPom era didn't even make the E8.

Gonzaga has been an offensive team for years. 1 final 4 in how many years?

Iowa is gonna have to get stops to advance. It’s how it’s always been

Well at least 1 more stop than the other team lol . 101-100 or 41-40. All the same to me

Nebraska fans are fer sure drunk right now

Man Huskers gave that one away . Ayo is a beast though. Wouldve been an awful loss for Illinois and the league

Sometimes I wonder how bored these kids are. Can’t imagine being 19-20 and playing with no fans. It’s like AAU on TV

Can’t imagine taking 14 days off or more in the middle of the season either. That’s rough mentally and for a kid...

And it’s like -55 outside

Nice easy win . Garza played awful and no CJ but everyone else balled out

Iowa up to 3rd in Kenpom . The offense is reaching pretty historic efficiency levels at 127 2 ( a full 3 pts higher than the 2nd place team ). The difference between Iowa at 1 and WVU at 10 is larger than the difference between WVU and 105th ranked MSU

Iowas rating of 127.2 is the 2nd best rating this century trailing only 2015 Wisconsin

#1 on offense by a wide margin and #111 on defense

has to be frustrating as a fan

Like I said earlier this year, Iowa is going to be the hardest team to project in March. They could blow everyone out on their way to the elite 8 or they could lose in the second round. I wouldn't be shocked by either.

D has been a lot lot better the last 3 games since we quit playing so much zone . Hopefully it's a permanent trend

It's going to be interesting. If CJ plays and or CMac shoots it like he did yesterday we've got a high ceiling. This is a really tough team to prep for on a short turnaround so im excited to see what happens . Next 6 are brutal though. Gotta win at least 4 of them to get to the 3 line imo but 2 vs Wisconsin and road games at OSU and Michigan are no joke

Since 2002, only one team that was sub 100 on defense (KenPom) has made the Final Four. Marquette in 2003 with Dwayne Wade.

Notre Dame made the Elite 8 once with a sub 100 defense (and a second time when their defense was ranked 99th). No other teams with a sub 100 defense have made the Elite 8 since 2002

Bottom line, If Iowa is on their game offensively, there are very few teams that can beat them. However, I don't believe their defense is going to be good enough to survive a average/poor shooting night.

Thats true but none of those other teams had an offense at this level either . Its fair to question the D but you can't ignore the offense either.

Likely true

That's fair. That's what make Iowa a really difficult team to project. Their gap between offensive and defensive efficiency is insane. I think Iowa would have a much better chance in an NBA style playoff. One bad night shooting wouldn't end their season. Iowa would be extremely difficult to beat in a 7 game series.
