BREAKING: Saban Retiring

DeBoer is 5-0 the last two seasons versus Sark and Lanning. Whipped Sark two postseasons on a row. I don't see how he would be a bad hire
Not sure I'd call a 6 point win and a 7 point win "whipping" anyone.

The question is fit.

Not all coaching styles play out the same at all locations. He's a rah rah players coach kind of in the vein of Pete Carroll. Not a strong disciplinarian type of field general. That won't work at every school. It has served him well at Sioux Falls, Fresno, and now at UW. His culture has worked in those cities.

We have also been a tad leary of his recruiting chops thus far. Willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and time to see how it goes, but he hasn't yet done anything major that way. He can't live long-term out of the portal to cover holes and expect to be 10+ a year threat in wins every season.

That last bit is the only thing that made me feel uneasy about giving him 9m/year as the rumors were floating on as it is. At least not for a 5yr+ kind of long term contract. He's got more to prove IMO.

He would be a phenomenal hire. That’s the problem. He’s like 104-12 as a head coach. He’s 25-3 at the P5 school he took over that was 4-8 the year before he got there.

Long term ability to recruit at this level is the only thing even a little in question. But mostly because it’s yet to be seen. Most of that concern is just Duck fan trolling (because all they have these days is beating off to their roster and recruiting rankings during the offseason), the HS class they have coming in isn’t worse (rankings wise) than what just got them to the title game, and he’s shown he knows how to use the portal.

:ninja:

But only kind of.

There's also the possible (but not probable) chance he is entertaining some kind of offer from the Seahawks. I wouldn't be in favor of that AT ALL, but it's been something discussed even by a few Seahawks insiders. I don't think he's anywhere near ready for a NFL job, but that's just me.
I don’t care if he’s ready for an NFL job or not. The Seahawks can fuck off. I’d completely drop my casual fandom if they came after DeBoer.

I still wonder if DeBoer isn't the kind of guy that's going to get in the face of his players when they fuckup if that plays out well at a school like Bama.

UW did commit way too many penalties and some of the good guy culture coach approach does tend to lead to that.

Well, apparently Saban will be watching from above and is willing to take on that role

Actually said they are meeting today, but they do not have a confirmed time they are meeting.

I can say this, if he had already accepted a deal with another school there isn't much reason to meet with UW officials.

He's either been offered and is looking to UW for a counter offer or hasn't been offered but is leveraging for more money.

The school had been working toward a new package for months. He for sure needed a MAJOR raise. He's worth far more than a little over 4m/yr considering how fast he pushed the team forward.

It's clunky and he probably shouldn't have accepted a planned spot on the radio if there wasn't a deal of some sort already in place. Hard to envision how he comes out looking good either way, but we will see how it shakes out.
Thoughts and prayers.

As a representative of Bengal nation I would like to extend a personal invitation to you.
It was cool watching Browning getting some starting QB time.

He never really looked the role at the college level, and then he played and did shit he shouldn't have been able to do. Some of that looks like it could translate to the NFL.

What was your take on his play?

Solid. I don’t think you could’ve asked for more from a backup. I don’t think he is starter material but the guy will have a great career as a backup and in the NFL that’s a fantastic job.

Basically I think we are down to 3 choices:

DeBoer - Seems to be the guy they are targeting but maybe Washington unloads the cash dump truck (will hurt they aren’t getting a full B1G share).

Norvell - Not sure if this latest NCAA issue will scare Bama off.

Kiffin - I don’t think the admin wants him but if the other two are out he is the best option.

If it isn’t one of these three the AD is going to catch hell.

This is gonna be a Tennessee having to settle for Jeremy Pruitt situation
If the top two fall out and they refuse to hire Kiffin then it is going to get really interesting really fast. AD promised a guy in 72 hours so the clock is ticking.

Your solid backup could be another teams starter. There are some BAD starters across the NFL. Wouldn't expect him to pass up Burrow, but he could be worth some trade value to a lower tier team.

If I was a Washington fan I'd be hitting every Alabama message board and Twitter feed with,

I said Locksley as a joke yesterday, but apparently there is a little traction there now.

Also just read Eli Drinkwitz(or however you spell the Mizzou coach’s name) is a possibility

There are for sure a lot of UW fans freaking out and have been for days now.

I don't think either Day or I are in that boat.

He stays or he doesn't. My worst fear is being locked down in a very long contract with too much money if somehow he ends up being a 1 hit wonder.

UW is under the trap of a way too big contract with their mens basketball coach. Highly touted and had signs in first year or two and got some mega deal only to end up being a total and complete flop. They owed him too much money to get rid of him.

We can figure out how to deal with anything else other than a massive contract that could lead to issues later.
