Dan Mullen Has To Be Fired Right?

Cristobal has just taken over the PAC-12. He's going on his 3rd straight year of being a conference champion. We recruit like an SEC school, we have a defense like an SEC school, we have a powerful offense that can run the same run play over and over and can't be stopped. Oregon and Cristobal have created a powerhouse out West and this conference is our stepping stone every year to the CFP
You're not paying attention to the whole picture. Oregon's recruiting is light years ahead of any other PAC school, the way Oregon wins those games is way more dominant then the score indicates. Last night we beat Washington by 10, but that game was over when it was UW 9 and Oregon 3 and Washington tried to go for it on 4th and 1 instead of taking the points to make the game 12-3. That is how large the gap is between Oregon and some of it's fellow members in the conference. They need to play a near perfect game to beat the Ducks.

I get the "whole picture".
Cristobol's coaching success has basically been at the G5 level. Like you said, why would he want to leave that only to get exposed a la Frost, Taggert, etc.?

Did you miss this?

Texas has every bit of that "Powerful Offense", but is (4-5) and has lost 4 straight.

Scoring Offense
Texas: 10th
Oregon: 23rd

Total Offense
Texas: 30th
Oregon: 33rd

Rushing Offense
Texas: 20th
Oregon: 25th

Passing Offense
Oregon: 63rd
Texas: 70th

This is Cristobals conference

Thoughts on Gary Patterson? I would take him over Mario

I remember really wanting Dan Mullen back during the 2015-2016 coach search. I thought he was a home run hire for Florida after his success at Mississippi State.

Interesting to see such an epic fail this year.

He had impressed me too at Mississippi State, but now it seems like he just wasn't ready for that step up.

Unless they're a current elite, they're all a crapshoot.

G5's, Coordinators, or even P5's having success at mid-level schools.

Luck of the draw on finding upcoming elites. They're too few and far between.

A guy like Fickell at the next level is a gamble pure and simple.

Someone's gotta take that gamble though and will.

Yeah, it seemed like the perfect fit since Dan Mullen was around in the Urban Meyer era. It screamed Urban Meyer 2.0. The first couple of years, Florida looked like it was making moves but man has it really fallen.

Being a Vols fan, I hope it really continues.

His buyout is very high. He is staying at Oregon. The Ducks have one of the best recruiting classes, the future is very bright as is the recent past, showing it's a program that is stable. The committee wants the Ducks to be top 4. Oregon is now a top 6 job in college football. Basically Oregon is the Clemson West of the Rockies.

No reason to leave the job for the grind of the SEC.
Except Clemson has actually won a championship

The w/l record trend line is bad, but his losses last season were at least respectable....Not so this year. At Mississippi State it took until his sixth season for them to peak, but I don't see UF waiting that long and he started out at UF with a lot better team to work with.

Funny, this isn't being discussed on here but I saw a lot of links on VolNation with UK fans complaining about Stoops and hitting the ceiling at UK as well. They started out hot (granted against a softer schedule) and have now lost 3 straight games.

Mullen has one thing in his favor (should be at least) the rest of this season: UF has Samford, Mizzou & FSU left on their schedule. If he drops one he's likely gone, but there's a very good chance that they'll run the table and end up with 7 wins and a bowl game. That's not competing for SEC or SEC East titles, but it seems like it could be enough to get him another season.

I said that about the last 4. Add USCe in that and I thought it was guaranteed to be an 8-4 season. They might lose one more after what they showed yesterday.

I think with UK it comes down to depth. The season can be brutal and though they have some talented guys, they are not stacked 3 deep.

tbh, some coaches are just better at coaching smaller programs w/o the intense pressure

for example, i think Dave Clawson would be pretty bad at a place like Florida.

Ugh... we are even worse shape in that department and we beat them.

The fact is they just don't have a lot of talent. They did have more offensive talent as Tennessee's defense really struggled yesterday but they clearly didn't have the skill/speed to keep up with our WRs and other players on offense.

The issue is that UK beat a bunch of mediocre teams plus a down Florida and down LSU team to start 6-0. They barely won most of their games (even UTC). They were a lot like Iowa and Michigan State and were destined to be exposed. They seem to be an 8-4 type team and that is probably what they will finish.

Mullen has made the most immediate move he needed to make. Good for him.

Not sure where you think Cristobal is going. He is completely owning the PAC-12 and has an easy road to the CFP every year.
He has an easy road for sure, the MWC is a tougher conference... but there is no road to CFP, let alone one every year lol.
