EPL 2021/2022

Klopp subtly whining lol. Maybe rethinking that 4 year contract he signed? One thing about Liverpool, they don't have oil money. They have absolutely shrewd management though. They need that to compete. My Bayern the same way. You poach good youngsters like Van Dyke, etc. Let's see what happens with the Mane/Salah contracts if they intend to compete with Man City and maybe Newcastle too at some point.

Of course, with the Haaland signing there has to some sort of exodus up front. Jesus looks like he is gone. I wouldn't be surprised if Sterling moves too. If Arsenal make top 4, would be a good signing.

They didn't exactly "poach" Van Dijk as a youngster on the cheap. They paid a 75M pound transfer fee, which at the time was the world record for a defender (hilariously, ManU then topped that amount with 80M for Macguire). They also paid 67M for Allison and recently another 60m for Luis Diaz.

They splash the cash as much as any other top end club and their wage structure is among the top in EPL as well. What they have done extraordinarily well is find guys that seamlessly fit into their system, so the money they spend ends up being well spent. Conversely, when Spurs finally started splashing some cash, they were wasteful on Ndombele and Lo Celso, who didn't work out at all.

Their recruitment team is world class.

Thanks for the update. Good knowledge. I guess the TV money is good in EPL? Didn't realize 75 mil was for Van Dyke and that much for 67 mil and 60 mil. Transfer fees? Haaland Transfer fee cheap. 61 million only. He is getting paid less then De Bruyne too. De Bruyne gets 20 million. Highest paid Man City player. Fair.

Bayern does not pay big transfer fees but overpay players. Look at these out of whack contracts? Sane overpaid 17 million per year, Kimmich and Neuer and Muller around 20 million. Lewey 23 million with bonuses. Even Coman for all of his 6 goals and 2 assists 15 million. Great (other than Coman and Sane) players but still less revenue in Germany not like EPL. With their salary structure out of whack depth signings are gone.

Liverpool:

Alisson about 8 million compared to Neuer.
Van Dijk only 12 million. Highest paid Liverpool player.
Mane just over 5 million. Highway robbery here.
Salah 10 million. He wants 21 million. Coman and Sane at 15 million + so you know what is coming here.

Liverpool is going to have a salary reckoning very soon.

Bayern. Lunacy. Grealish and Stones are Bayern's Coman and Sane:

Only positive for the rest of the clubs is that he gets hurt alot. Muscle type injuries. Missed 16 games this year, and last year 12. Hopefully, not chronic for Man City. Really hurt Dortmund in key games.
You may be right, and the EPL in general is a faster pace and more rough and tumble. Plus usually more fixture congestion than the Bundesliga.

Son and Kane underpaid though. Some decent salary management in EPL for now. Why some players take so much less?

Way more physical than Bundesliga. He is going to find out quickly like Havertz and Werner.

Lol. De Gea 19 million and Allisson 8 million. Overpaying too.

I liken it to car racing. Bundesliga is like IndyCar, EPL is like NASCAR "rubbin' is racin' "

According to Sportrac (hopefully a reasonably reliable site), here are the current season salaries for the top 6 clubs in England (in pounds):

- City: 142.7M (roughly 1M in dead money)
- Liverpool: 142.9M
- Chelsea: 198M
- Arsenal: 107.8M (9.1M in dead money)
- Tottenham: 72.2M (2.6m in dead money)
- Man U: a staggering 236.2M!

Highlights who the most wasteful of the group have been and which clubs are trying to penny pinch (Spurs  ). For their money spent, the talent City and Liverpool have acquired is incredible. United paying Rashford as much as Spurs are paying Kane! If Harry ever does re-up his contract with Spurs, his payment will be increased. A number of these were done under Spurs old and far more tight budget prior to the new stadium.

It's absolutely massive.

This article is a few years old, but if anything the gap has only gotten bigger:

For a US sports comparison, lets say the EPL TV deal is akin to the BigTen or SEC tv money. The other big leagues in Europe are bringing in Big12 money, which is nice but nowhere near the B1G or SEC, with the exception of Real and Barca, who are like OU and Texas...and we saw what just happened with OU and Texas.

Also, lol @ Leeds.

another early goal conceded and another player sent off early with a straight red. That stinking corpse of a club is sinking right back down to the championship division.

I looked at Real Madrid salaries. 32 and 34 million Bale and Hazzard. Poor management there too. Even Kroos making 21 million at his age. City and Liverpool manage the salaries well except the Grealish signing. But they sign longer deals too.

Probably. Everton tied Watford today which helps Leeds. The big game tomorrow. I am trying to delay going until Friday.

PSG another badly managed team. 27 million for a broken down Ramos? An aging Messi for 63 million? 56 million for Neymar? PSG in the jersey selling business not winning European Titles. No way Neymar us better than De Bruyne.

PSG can get away with it thanks to their oil money and the fact that they play in a 1-team league. Chelsea got away with it for years because Abramovic would just pump more money into the club. Even Barca and Madrid got away with it forever until their finances finally caught up to them.

The funniest one to me has to be ManU. Always spend a fortune, end up with the wrong players and/or manager, and they always pay way too much both on transfer fee and on salary.

I really enjoy ManU misery. Funny to watch. And now the team is complete drama with high priced players who don't even try. No way ManU should be losing to Brighton 4-0. And that is not an anomaly.

Chelsea has won a couple UCLs in recent years, so maybe it has been worth it. They do have a fair amount of mistakes on the roster, most of them recent, Werner, Lukaku, some still the jury is out like Pulisic, Havertz, etc but a couple home runs, Mendy, especially Kante.
