Well, so much for my prognostication that the Dutch will come out of that side of the bracket.

Yes, they went down to 10 men in the 55th minute and that really opened advantage for the Czechs…..but I really loved how the Czechs didn’t go into half field siege mode after the first (and certainly after the second) goal.

They kept a good balance of pushing the ball and falling back when they needed to, kept it fun and interesting. A full strength Dutch team that didn’t give up by the 80th minute would have made that much harder to do.

But a great win for the Czechs no matter. Having the opponent down a man is a huge advantage, but you have to do something with it.

I am still alive picking Belgium vs England. That Germany / England game Tuesday decides the right side bracket if England wins I think. Germany not so much. Germany could beat England then come crashing down next game no matter who it is. Denmark I still worry about on the right side too. Inspiration from a fallen player can carry you a long way. Ask 1990 Loyola Marymount basketball team about that when Hank Gathers collapsed and died on court just before the NCAA tournament and they made the elite 8. Left side Belgium has a long way to go with France / Italy / Spain over there.

Mbappe a good player, but France out in round of 16 and PSG didn't win Ligue 1. That is a big fail this year.
