Euro 2020 (err 2021 now)

Did anyone notice that ESPN change Soccer to Football on their website. I was here looking all over for the "Soccer" homepage
I would have noticed, if I still went to that shithole for anything.

The ESPNFC boys put it on Southgate as he brought in Rashford and Sancho in the 120th minute strictly for penalties. He brought in 2 guys ice cold off the bench to take the biggest kicks of their live. He set them up for a failure. Bring them in maybe for the 2nd 15 of ET at least to get some rust off at least.
After seeing the stats yesterday I understood better why the subs were made. It boils down to the timing.

It was highlighted all the more when there was 1-2 minutes before final stoppage time and they had one (or both) subs waiting and had a throw in. They ran up quick and took the throw in.

This highlighted the concern I had in rooting for England. Once they truly faced some adversity how would they do. Their body language had been shit since late in regular time. Now they clearly weren’t all on the same page, as they had subs waiting as a clear sign we are going to PK and at least the player throwing in there had it in mind they were trying to push the winning goal.

Probably moot anyway because Southgate waited far too long to sub the kickers in to get warm. Inserting Rashford to defense was iffy, I get that…..but in hindsight you could have put Sancho in for Saka much sooner if you were not getting consumed by the game. And Southgate clearly did.
